  • Understand the mechanics of working machinery and be able to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and facilities.
  • Establish working relationships with maintenance, production, and management personnel.
  • Work overtime when required to maintain, install, or repair equipment or facilities.
  • Understand and comply with work-order systems, machine histories, scheduling, warehousing, and related maintenance functions.
  • Have at least one year of experience in a journey-level industrial millwright position or comparable training.
  • Be proficient in welding, cutting, equipment and systems troubleshooting, maintaining working components, operating machinery, understanding pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and using tools related to the trade.
  • Pass a drug test if offered a position.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain, install, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and plant facilities.
  • Assist production personnel with material-flow-related problems and maintain product flow.
  • Maintain communication with facility departments and personnel to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Keep all documentation up to date.
  • Comply with company work and safety rules and applicable industry standards and regulations.
  • Operate maintenance tools, related machinery, and facility equipment as needed for troubleshooting and testing.
  • Work required overtime.
  • Learn new skills needed to maintain updated machinery and facilities.
  • Take a leadership role in completing assigned tasks and work assignments.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Learn production operator positions sufficiently to maintain production flow.
  • Learn the operations of related industry departments and their functions.

Hampton Lumber announces free recreational permit program for forestland in Oregon and SW Washington. June 8, 2026 Portland, OR - Hampton Lumber today announced the launch of a free recreational permit program for public access to the company's forestlands in Oregon, as well as designated Hampton-owned forestlands in southwest Washington. These forestlands have long been open to public recreation. The permit program will simply serve as a communication tool to provide clear, current information about access conditions, safety considerations, and expectations for responsible use. Under the program, forestlands are available for fishing, hunting, hiking, and other uses consistent with permit rules and seasonal restrictions. Permit holders should be aware that Hampton will continue to close all public access during periods of high fire danger - typically during the summer months - to protect public safety, neighboring landowners, and forest resources. Camping, fires, dumping, and vandalism are never allowed on Hampton land, and permit holders are expected to pack out what they pack in and respect posted rules and restrictions. "We're pleased to be able to continue offering public access to these forestlands, and we understand how much that access is appreciated by local community members," said Hampton Timberland Manager Paul Lulay. "This permit gives us a better way to stay in touch with people who use these lands so we can share timely information about conditions, closures, and what's expected to keep access safe and respectful." Hampton forestlands and road networks within the permit areas are often interspersed with other private lands, some of which do not allow recreational access. Permit holders are responsible for understanding property boundaries and adjacent landowner access policies when recreating on Hampton land. Permits are available through an online platform administered by My Outdoor Agent (MOA) and are issued upon application. All permit applications, account management, and public inquiries regarding access to lands in permit areas should be directed to MOA. The permit program will go into effect June 8, 2026. At that time, all recreational users present on Hampton property will be expected to display proof of a valid permit. South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster visited the Lowcountry last week to participate in a ceremonial groundbreaking for a project that developers say will bring at least 125 new jobs to one of the most poor and rural areas of the state. On Nov. 5, Gov. McMaster, representatives of the SouthernCarolina Alliance (SCA), and other state and local partners joined Hampton Lumber officials as they broke ground on a 375,000-square-foot lumber mill in Fairfax, which is located in Allendale County, not far from Hampton County. "Congratulations to Allendale County and the wonderful Hampton Lumber team!" announced SCA officials in the economic development alliance's monthly newsletter. Hampton Lumber, a producer of sustainable building materials, announced June 24 that had selected Allendale County to establish the company's first sawmill on the East Coast. "Hampton Lumber's new operation in Allendale County will be a notable addition to our state's forestry industry, while also providing opportunities for our people and contributing to the local economy," said Gov. McMaster in a statement. "We are proud the company recognized South Carolina as the ideal home for its first East Coast mill and look forward to supporting its success in our state." The company's $225 million investment is expected to create at least 125 jobs, officials said in a release at the time, in a S.C. Lowcountry county that is among the lowest-income areas of the state but is one of the richest in terms of timber and agricultural resources. With 12.9 million acres of forestland, South Carolina has a rooted history in the timber industry, which is continuing with the newest addition of a sawmill in Allendale County. Hampton Lumber, a fourth-generation, family-owned producer of building materials, is investing $225 million to build a modern sawmill in South Carolina's Lowcountry region, marking the company's first East Coast operation. The project is expected to bring at least 125 new jobs and begin operations in 2027. The 375,000-square-foot mill, located at Highway 321 and Barker Mill Pond Road in Fairfax, will specialize in producing Southern Yellow Pine framing lumber for use in single and multi-family home construction. Lumber from the facility will also go to truss plants, pressure treaters and professional dealers. Why South Carolina? Hampton Lumber states that this new operation will specialize in producing quality Southern Yellow Pine framing lumber, which the Palmetto State has in abundance. The company states that South Carolina "is home to a healthy wood product industry" that can support this new mill for years to come. Southern Yellow Pine forests are also known to grow quickly in warm, sunny climates. Plans for the Hampton Lumber sawmill were announced in June, right on the cusp of two other sawmills in the state, Canfor Corp., with locations in Darlington and Estill, shuttering operations in August.
