Responsibilities

Organize programs, policies, and procedures to assess, evaluate, and meet the needs of patients in inpatient psychiatric services, outpatient psychiatric clinics, and transitional psychiatric programs.
Plan, supervise, and coordinate care provided by Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Licensed Psychiatric Technicians, and other mental health workers.
Plan and assign staffing ratios based on patient needs, acuity, staff competency, and regulatory requirements.
Implement nursing practice standards in behavioral healthcare and review and revise them annually as needed to reflect changes in nursing practice.
Address and support cultural practices provided they do not harm others or interfere with the planned course of therapy.
Ensure clear, concise, and current written policies and procedures are available to assist staff and minimize risk factors.
Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical and healthcare errors.
Support and maintain a culture of safety and quality.
Recommend modifications, additions, or deletions to personnel policies to ensure reasonable hours and acceptable working conditions for patient care coverage.

Plan and coordinate budget requirements for staff, work, supplies, and equipment with the respective service managers.
Control costs to ensure approved departmental budgets are spent effectively.
Implement an ongoing program to measure, assess, and improve the quality of nursing care delivered to psychiatric patients.
Ensure each nursing department's performance improvement program interfaces with and supports the nursing department's performance improvement program.
Ensure nursing leaders review monthly performance improvement compliance with established indicators and take corrective action when negative outcomes are identified.
Collaborate with facility leaders to develop, implement, review, revise, and monitor facility-wide performance improvement activities.
Plan and conduct departmental meetings, house supervisors' meetings, and in-service education programs for staff, and maintain records of meetings.
Facilitate patients' access to the appropriate level of care and setting.

POSITION TITLE: Assistant Director of Nursing

PAY RANGE: $145-$170k/year

REPORTS TO: Chief Nursing Officer

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Organizes and administers areas of Nursing Services to attain the facility’s objectives established by the governing authority. The Assistant Director of Nursing maintains knowledge of, participates in further training provided, and understands the potential risks regarding occupational health hazards (e.g. bloodborne pathogen exposures).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Organizes programs, policies and procedures that are developed to assess, evaluate and meet the needs of patients of inpatient psychiatric services, psychiatric outpatient clinics and transitional psychiatric programs.
Plans, supervises and coordinates care given by Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Licensed Psychiatric Technician, and other mental health workers.

Requirements

Knowledge and Experience:

Master's degree in Nursing or a related field with at least one year of experience in administration, or two Baccalaureate Degrees in Nursing or a related field with at least two years of experience in Nursing Administration preferred
Minimum of two years’ experience working in psychiatric Nursing preferred.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required, or obtained within initial orientation period.
Verbal de-escalation and physical intervention program as approved by the CNO.
