Responsibilities
  • Coordinate services for consumers to minimize stressors, reduce psychiatric symptoms, address health care needs, and support overall wellness.
  • Coordinate a variety of services for consumers; provide support counseling, problem solving, and assessments; establish attainable goals; involve consumers, agencies, and others in planning; and assist consumers in deciding which areas to address.
  • Assist consumers with basic medical procedures and hygiene needs, and encourage them to attain the highest possible levels of independence while respecting their values and lifestyles.
  • Use a flexible approach with a diverse population and participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team in developing and implementing therapeutic services, including work with substance abusers as it relates to case management.
  • Present verbal synopses of actual cases as required and accompany consumers to appointments with agencies, clinics, doctors, and others.
  • Initiate vocational and job-development activities with consumers.
  • Assess unmet psychological, physical, housing, and psychiatric needs; provide appropriate crisis interventions and risk management; identify, assess, and respond to crisis situations; and remain calm and professional during crises or emergencies.
  • Transport consumers in the employee's own vehicle to planned activities and appointments.
  • Complete recordkeeping within required time frames and in accordance with Health Information Services and other Center requirements; follow the Center's confidentiality policy; complete progress notes in the appropriate format; and monitor confidentiality in accordance with agency policy and legal requirements.
  • Develop and implement plans of care with ongoing consumer input, and complete clear, specific, behaviorally oriented treatment plans as required, with the consumer's signature.
  • Follow office procedures cooperatively, initiate and process incident reports according to agency guidelines, and adhere to infection-control protocols.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with the team, consumers, community agencies, and the public; communicate with local agencies and other agency departments or teams; cooperate with coworkers and supervisory staff; address team problems constructively; and accept direction, supervision, and constructive criticism.
  • Attend trainings, case presentations, conferences, mandatory in-service trainings, and other required trainings; provide feedback to staff on educational programs attended.
  • Serve on appropriate agency committees as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least three years of experience working in mental health or substance use is preferred.
  • An LCDP certificate is preferred, or the candidate should be close to completing it.

Care New England cuts 30+ leadership jobs to close $20M budget gap

Care New England is cutting more than 30 leadership and non-clinical positions to address a projected $20 million budget deficit for fiscal year 2026. The announcement comes as hospitals nationwide face financial pressures from federal Medicaid funding changes and policy overhauls. CEO Dr Michael Wagner cited uncompetitive state reimbursement rates compared with neighbouring states as factors hindering staff recruitment and retention. The health system, Rhode Island's second-largest hospital operator, employs over 8,000 people across Butler, Kent and Women & Infants hospitals. Care New England has faced ongoing financial challenges, exacerbated during the pandemic. A proposed 2022 merger with competitor Lifespan was blocked by regulators on anti-trust grounds. The company spent more than $10.8 million on executive compensation in fiscal 2024.
