Requirements
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing and troubleshooting.
  • Preferred Associate’s degree from an accredited two-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls, or an Electrical Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college; comparable military experience and training may also qualify.
  • NETA Certification III or IV, or similar certification, is desired; an electrician license is preferred.
  • Good PC skills, including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Excel, are required; PowerDB experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
  • Ability to drive daily locally or regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug tests, criminal background checks, and a fit-for-duty physical examination.
  • Ability to crawl, climb, stand, and lift up to 100 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a good driving record.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without employer-sponsored visa or work permit.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime, including occasional weekends, holidays, and nights.
Responsibilities
  • Travel to industrial and commercial customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up activities, and collect data from low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical systems ranging from 480 volts to 600 kilovolts.
  • Travel to customer job sites across Minnesota and bordering states.
  • Perform instrument transformer tests.
  • Perform power transformer testing using Doble, transformer turns ratio, insulation resistance, and related methods.
  • Perform cable testing using Tan Delta, power factor, very low frequency, and direct-current hipot methods.
  • Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches.
  • Test low-, medium-, and high-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
  • Perform moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.
  • Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.
  • Maintain availability for regular overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel.
Desired Qualifications
  • Proficiency in testing both electromechanical and solid-state relays.
  • OSHA 30-hour, Mine Safety and Health Administration, NFPA 70E, CPR, First Aid, bloodborne pathogens, and automated external defibrillator training; Shermco can provide training.
  • U.S. passport and Transportation Worker Identification Credential card.
