Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • During the program, obtain a Commercial Driver’s License, diesel mechanic certification or an associate degree, and Automotive Service Excellence certifications.
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude.
  • Have or develop basic computer and diagnostic tool skills.
  • Read or learn to read schematics and technical manuals.
  • Lift and move heavy mechanical components; stand, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces.
  • Operate tools and mechanical equipment.
  • Work in maintenance shop environments around noise, fumes, and moving equipment.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and follow instructions and safety procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Participate in 5,350 hours of on-the-job training and 650 hours of related classroom instruction.
  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair transit buses and related systems, including diesel, electric, hybrid, and alternative-fuel propulsion systems, electrical systems, brake systems, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems, and vehicle body components.
  • Work under the supervision of certified technicians.
  • Complete program evaluations every six months.
