Requirements
  • Current New Hampshire registered nurse license is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is required, except for Pre-Admission Testing and Operating Room roles.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is required for Emergency Department roles.
  • Completion of all unit-specific competencies and requirements required to care for critically ill patients within the department is required.
  • Practice must reflect knowledge of current practice standards, including American Nurses Association standards, the New Hampshire Nurse Practice Act, and specialty standards.
  • Call is required for Cath Lab and Stress Lab roles.
  • TNCC certification is required within 18 months for Emergency Department roles.
  • NIHSS stroke scale certification is required within approximately one year for Emergency Department roles.
Responsibilities
  • Render professional nursing care to patients within an assigned hospital unit in support of medical care as directed by medical staff and hospital policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement planning and processes for the area of practice.
  • Complete clinical documentation and care plans comprehensively and promptly for all assigned patients.
  • Communicate patient information through handoffs, walking rounds, and physician or provider interactions to support continuity and safe care.
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff by following established procedures and protocols.
  • Implement resources and initiatives intended to improve patient safety.
  • Report errors and adopt safe practices within the Just Culture environment.
  • Address issues through the appropriate chain of command.
  • Complete hourly rounding in collaboration with Licensed Nursing Assistants on all assigned patients.
  • Identify and assist in correcting patient-care safety issues.
  • Build respectful relationships by proactively identifying concerns, compliments, or suggestions.
  • Collaborate across units and shifts to resolve conflicts and issues in a timely manner.
  • Consult with nurses in other departments or units to draw upon expertise in other clinical areas and specialties.
  • Assist team members and help resolve tension within the unit or department, including by accepting admissions or adjusting assignments.
  • Practice consistently with shared governance and the philosophy of the unit and organization.
  • Assist with identifying solutions to problems and conflicts.
  • Delegate aspects of care and unit activities to other nursing personnel.
  • Collaborate in planning, supervising, and instructing other nurses and assistants.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing students and instructors.
  • Participate in peer review of colleagues.
  • Participate in DNV survey readiness.
  • For Cath and Angio Lab roles, assist with insertion of Flow wire, Opsens, and IVUS; demonstrate contraindications and reversal for intravenous adenosine infusion; safely administer procedural sedation; pass the annual sedation examination; and document sedation according to policies and procedures.
  • For Emergency Department roles, remain current with unit-based nurse-sensitive indicators and respond to emergency situations such as code blue and rapid response team events.
  • Complete other duties consistent with the role.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three years of critical care experience is preferred for the Cath and Angio Lab Departments.
  • Basic Dysrhythmia certification is preferred or may be obtained before completion of orientation.
  • NIHSS certification is preferred or may be obtained before completion of orientation.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute training is preferred or may be obtained before completion of orientation.
  • Graduation from an approved Nursing program is preferred.
