About the job

Requirements
  • 3–5 years of experience in workforce management, employee relations, or people development, with demonstrated experience directly supporting frontline employees in a field-based operational environment.
  • A bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Organizational Development, Human Resources, or equivalent field experience.
  • Strong conflict de-escalation and coaching skills.
  • Comfort communicating with executives.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary, visible point of contact for 200 dedicated field employees on pay questions, policy interpretation, benefits, and day-to-day workplace concerns.
  • Identify and de-escalate interpersonal and site-level conflict early; document and investigate concerns thoroughly and consistently.
  • Coach site supervisors on delivering fair, effective evaluations; build and manage improvement plans; lead difficult conversations, including disciplinary action, with professionalism.
  • Run regular pulse-checks, stay interviews, and exit interviews to catch morale and attrition risks early, and drive targeted fixes at the crew and site level.
  • Partner with scheduling and dispatch to track shift coverage, keep rosters optimized, and rapidly fill vacancies within the assigned 200-person cohort.
  • Audit skill gaps across the cohort and coordinate safety training, license renewals, trade certifications, and cross-training so crews stay project-ready.
  • Build clear, structured paths that move entry-level field employees into skilled, lead, and supervisory roles.
  • Ensure the cohort meets every client and project requirement—including background checks, drug screens, medical clearances, and site badging—before deployment.
  • Monitor and maintain compliant E1–E4 classification ratios and Full Crew Rate staffing targets across the cohort, adjusting crew composition to keep skill mix and cost profile aligned to project requirements.
  • Ensure the onsite chain of command is clearly defined, communicated, and consistently followed across the cohort, monitoring for breakdowns in reporting structure and escalating promptly.
  • Translate field-level trends in morale, turnover, training compliance, and readiness into clear, concise updates for the Director of Field Operations and executive leadership.
  • Represent the voice of the field in leadership discussions and carry company priorities and strategy back to crews.
  • Prepare and deliver regular reporting on cohort health using the stated KPIs, flagging risks before they affect project delivery.
  • Reduce annualized voluntary turnover within the assigned cohort; maintain at least 95% assignment utilization; ensure compliance with mandatory site-access certifications and targeted internal upskilling milestones; reduce time to resolve employee concerns and onsite disputes; deliver timely and accurate cohort reporting; maintain compliant crew ratios, staffing targets, and chain of command.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in construction, electrical, industrial, or technical trades environments is strongly preferred.
  • PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP certification is a plus but is not required.
  • Bilingual ability is a plus depending on site demographics.

About the company

Hays Electrical Services

View

Hays Electrical Services installs electrical systems for large construction projects across the United States, from hotels and hospitals to apartment towers and data centers. Many of its jobs are renovations inside buildings that stay open, such as busy hotels, an active hospital and an airport terminal, so crews phase work around guests and patients. Building owners and general contractors hire it for a project's electrical scope, from estimating and 3D design coordination through prefabrication, installation and later service calls. Its crews also install low-voltage systems such as fire alarms, security equipment and data cabling. Hays Electrical Services was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Hays says growth is creating jobs: it cites 146% corporate headcount growth over two years, from LinkedIn workforce data.
  • One Dallas data center posting adds incentive pay: Hays lists journeymen at up to $48 an hour plus $10 hourly.
  • Injuries have not cost crews workdays: Hays reports a zero lost-time injury rate for 2023 through 2025.

What critics are saying

  • Some field leadership jobs mean travel: Hays posts traveling foreman and superintendent roles listed as remote or nationwide.
  • Solar contracts put cash at risk: Hays' utility solar managers track contract penalties and retainage, money withheld until completion.
  • Apprenticeship means night school: classes meet on set weekdays from 5 to 9 PM, about 40 weeks a year.

What makes Hays Electrical Services unique

  • Power-ups have one gatekeeper: on data center jobs, Hays' Energy Marshal controls energizing and lockout of circuits.
  • Hays trains its own electricians: a four-year apprenticeship it co-created, registered with the Labor Department, admits only Hays employees.
  • Hays is set up for out-of-state work: the contractor reports licenses in 38 states.
