Barnes & Thornburg expands Corporate and Labor and Employment teams with two Indianapolis partners.

Barnes & Thornburg expands Corporate and Labor and Employment teams with two Indianapolis partners. Arrival of partners Kristine Camron and Tom Stafford strengthens the firm's venture capital and ESOP capabilities September 9, 2026 Barnes & Thornburg is adding depth to its Corporate and Labor and Employment Departments with the additions of Kristine Camron and Thomas P. (Tom) Stafford as partners in its Indianapolis office. Camron focuses her practice on venture capital and business transactions, while Stafford concentrates on employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs) and employee benefits. Camron brings more than 25 years of experience in advising entrepreneurs, startups, growth companies and investors on venture capital and business transactions, and has managed more than 500 deals across industries, including healthcare, logistics, software and manufacturing. She joins Barnes & Thornburg from Camron Molin, the Indianapolis boutique she leads as managing partner, and will continue to counsel clients on a range of corporate and transactional matters. "Adding Kristine gives our Corporate Department a proven leader in venture capital and emerging company work," said Jahan Sharifi, chair of the firm's Corporate Department. "Clients across the firm's national footprint will benefit from her experience." Stafford brings similar depth and experience in his practice. Previously a partner at Krieg DeVault in Indianapolis, he focuses on the design, implementation and administration of ESOPs and provides ongoing legal counsel and guidance to board of directors and officers of ESOP-owned companies regarding their fiduciary obligations under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). Stafford has participated in the structuring and negotiation of more than 100 transactions across the ESOP life cycle, including formations, re-leveraging transactions and the sale of several ESOP-owned companies. Active in regional and national ESOP organizations, Stafford currently serves as an officer of the ESOP Association's Indiana chapter and frequently speaks on ESOP issues. Complementing his niche ESOP practice, Stafford also advises employers on the full spectrum of employee benefits matters, from the design and operation of qualified retirement plans and nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements to health and welfare plans. Stafford also assists clients with the benefit plan issues that arise in connection with corporate mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. "Tom is a respected ESOP lawyer in this market, and his depth in employee benefits makes our national Labor and Employment team even stronger," said John R. Maley, chair of the firm's Labor and Employment Department. "He brings a level of sophistication that our clients expect." Camron is also a leader in her field. During a 23-year run at Ice Miller in Indianapolis, she led the firm's venture capital initiative and gained extensive experience advising venture-backed companies. She then founded a boutique, Camron Molin, where she has served as managing partner. Camron is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA and Indiana Super Lawyers, and was previously named to the Indianapolis Business Journal's Forty Under 40. "Kristine is one of the most well-connected dealmakers in Indiana," said Kepten D. Carmichael, vice chair of the firm's Corporate Department. "Her experience with venture-backed companies and her relationships in the start-up community will be a real asset to our clients." Camron earned her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and her bachelor's degree from James Madison College at Michigan State University. Stafford earned his J.D. from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and his A.B. in history and religion from Wabash College. Barnes & Thornburg welcomes 12-lawyer team in key expansion of Healthcare Industry practice.

Barnes & Thornburg welcomes 12-lawyer team in key expansion of Healthcare Industry practice. Veteran healthcare lawyers strengthen firm's regulatory, compliance and False Claims Act capabilities In a move that reinforces its commitment to serving healthcare providers, health systems, academic medical centers, life science companies, and other industry stakeholders across the country, Barnes & Thornburg - a national law firm with more than 900 lawyers in 26 markets - announces the addition of a 12-lawyer healthcare team in its Raleigh office. The team significantly deepens the firm's healthcare regulatory, compliance, data privacy, clinical research, transactional, and False Claims Act capabilities in the Research Triangle Park (RTP) region and nationally. "We are pleased to welcome our fifth lateral group this year in what has been an extraordinary year for the firm. This addition is another important step in our long-term strategic growth," said Andrew Detherage, managing partner of Barnes & Thornburg. "Healthcare has been a strategic growth focus for us, and this team immediately enhances our capabilities in one of the fastest-growing sectors of the economy while strengthening our presence in the Southeast, an increasingly important market for healthcare and life sciences innovation. They are a perfect fit for our culture." The team joins from K&L Gates, where partners Kelsey Jernigan and John Lawrence led the practice. At Barnes & Thornburg, Lawrence will serve as the managing partner of the Raleigh office (effective Nov. 1, 2026); Jernigan as director of healthcare regulatory services. The other partners include Jared Burtner, Nathan Huff, Carolyn Merritt, McNair Nichols and Rebecca Schaefer, along with associates Christian Flemming and Michael Phillips. Together, they represent hospitals, health systems, academic medical centers, physician groups, laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, and other healthcare organizations that navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape. "Our clients are confronting unprecedented regulatory scrutiny alongside rapid change across the healthcare industry," said John Kelly, chair of Barnes & Thornburg's Healthcare Department. "John and Kelsey have assembled an exceptional team that is highly regarded for guiding healthcare organizations through their most sophisticated litigation, enforcement and regulatory challenges. Their experience perfectly complements our existing strengths and substantially expands the depth and breadth of our national healthcare platform." With more than 140 lawyers, Barnes & Thornburg's Healthcare Industry practice represents clients across the full spectrum of the industry, including regulatory compliance, government investigations, reimbursement, fraud and abuse, corporate transactions, litigation, privacy, labor and employment, intellectual property and life sciences matters. "Barnes & Thornburg has built a collaborative national platform with an outstanding reputation for client service and sophisticated legal work," said Lawrence. "The firm's deep experience across its litigation, healthcare, life sciences, corporate and regulatory practices creates tremendous opportunities to help clients address increasingly complex challenges. The firm is committed to excellence, collaboration and practical, business-focused counsel, and our team is very excited to join." Additionally, Jernigan added, "Healthcare organizations need advisors who understand not only the regulatory framework but also the operational realities they face every day. Barnes & Thornburg's multidisciplinary approach allows us to deliver comprehensive solutions that help clients manage risk while achieving their strategic objectives. We are excited to begin this next chapter alongside such talented colleagues." With this addition of 12 healthcare lawyers, Barnes & Thornburg continues its historic hiring spree - ranked No. 1 by Pirical for Q1 2026 lateral partner additions - with five lateral group acquisitions preceding this one. A 39-lawyer public finance and infrastructure group joined in February and March, followed by a 12-lawyer insurance recovery team, a six-lawyer tax and insurance recovery cohort in April, a three-lawyer entertainment team in May, and a three-lawyer white-collar group in July. Barnes & Thornburg opened its Raleigh office in 2019 with a focus on intellectual property and the life sciences industry. The office now also provides M&A and private equity, litigation, and healthcare services as it becomes a destination for the region's premier legal talent. About Barnes & Thornburg. The American Lawyer and Law360 cover Barnes & Thornburg's pickup of 12-lawyer healthcare team.

The American Lawyer and Law360 cover Barnes & Thornburg's pickup of 12-lawyer healthcare team. The American Lawyer and Law360 reported that Barnes & Thornburg added a 12-lawyer healthcare team to its Raleigh office. In an interview with both publications, partners John Lawrence and Kelsey Jernigan, who lead the team, discussed why they made the move and what they bring to the firm. "We were incredibly impressed with the growth of Barnes & Thornburg's healthcare group over the last four years," said Lawrence, who will serve as managing partner of the Raleigh office (effective Nov. 1, 2026) to AmLaw. "Our areas of expertise are very similar, but we also bring additional areas as well so we can help create a really comprehensive group, and we're so excited about that that will look like." Jernigan told Law360 that the team has longstanding relationships with institutional healthcare providers whom they've advised on all aspects of their business. "We handle transactions, litigation and prospective regulatory compliance," Jernigan said. "This provides Barnes & Thornburg and its existing client base a broad range of experience to draw from, including benchmarking, creative structuring of complex affiliation among providers, successful strategies in defusing government scrutiny and navigating the intricate regulatory landscape." Firm Managing Partner Andrew Detherage and Healthcare Department Chair John Kelly told The American Lawyer that Barnes & Thornburg made growing its Healthcare Industry practice a strategic tenet beginning when Kelly first joined the firm in 2022. "When Andy and I met years ago, the vision he had for the healthcare practice was to shift it to an industry practice focus. It makes sense in this environment we live in today and the needs of our clients," Kelly said. "Now we have almost 140 lawyers in the healthcare industry practice that can service nearly every need a healthcare client has. We thought it would take five years to get there, and it took slightly less than that." The American Lawyer and Law360 noted that Barnes & Thornburg has been on a hiring tear throughout 2026, with this being the firm's fifth major lateral group acquisition. Detherage estimated that the firm has hired over 70 lateral partners and more than 130 attorneys overall this year. "We've kind of blown up our budget in many respects because we added 71 partners and a good number of other lawyers," he said. "We're doing really well, we're ahead of forecast, and we have every reason to believe we're going to finish really strong this year, which is extraordinary given how many people we've brought on."
