Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Two years of experience in institutional environmental services or linen services is required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to carry out the duties of the position is required.
  • Willingness to provide coverage for staffing shortages, including weekends, holidays, and periods of inclement weather, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Receive, store, collect, distribute, track, and transport sterile, clean, and soiled linen for assigned hospital areas safely and efficiently.
  • Serve as a lead to ensure efficient workflow in and out of the department, especially in the absence of the manager.
  • Start shifts with the team and orient new staff to infection control policies and procedures.
  • Train new staff to deliver and collect soiled linens.
  • Contribute to a patient-centered, friendly, welcoming, and safe environment while meeting or exceeding customer service expectations.
  • Communicate clearly, resolve complaints and concerns whenever possible, and demonstrate respect for patient rights.
  • Model Service Excellence, maintain professional composure, and work effectively with the team to meet or exceed customer service targets.
  • In the absence of the manager, assist with shift coverage, ensure staff adherence to schedules, oversee clean and soiled linen distribution and collection, and coordinate inventory needs with the Inventory Manager.
  • Orient new staff on infection control policies and procedures and train employees on proper delivery and collection of soiled linens.
  • Use computer systems, handheld units, and manual entry forms for linen tracking.
  • Stock, distribute, inventory, and refill clean linens and apparel; deliver emergency linen as needed; track reserved linen inventory; and identify items requiring repair or replacement.
  • Maintain work areas, equipment, linen rooms, logs, records, and linen statistics.
  • Examine laundered items for cleanliness and serviceability.
  • Adhere to and promote linen control policies and procedures.
  • Comply with attendance requirements, University Hospital compliance standards, HIPAA regulations, and applicable federal, state, and University Hospital policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
