Corning stock is up 44% in 2026 as AI fibre-optic demand lifts revenue to $5.1B

Corning shares have jumped 44% in 2026, far ahead of Nvidia's 16% return. The glass maker is benefiting from the AI data center boom through its fibre-optic cables, which are replacing copper. Third-quarter core revenue rose 19% to $5.1 billion. Optical communications sales grew 44% to $2.4 billion, and AI-related sales more than doubled. Core net income from that business rose 80% to $532 million. Meta Platforms plans to buy $6 billion of optical products from Corning, and Amazon signed a similar deal. Corning reached $20 billion in annual run-rate revenue a quarter early and targets $30 billion by the end of 2028 and $40 billion by the end of 2030.

Corning stock could hit $187 by 2030 as AI optical sales surge 44%

Corning shares could trade near $187 by the end of 2030, according to a Motley Fool analyst's estimate. That assumes adjusted earnings per share of about $7.50 and a price-to-earnings ratio of 25, implying returns of around 9% a year before dividends. The stock sits at roughly $132, under half its 52-week high of about $272. Yet the business is growing: third-quarter core sales rose 19% to $5.08 billion, and adjusted earnings per share rose 36% to $0.91. Optical communications drove the gain, with sales up 44% to $2.38 billion. Corning's plan targets a $40 billion annual sales pace by the end of 2030. The analyst notes that growth depends on a few tech giants keeping AI data centre budgets high.

Corning Q3 revenue up 18.9% to $5.08B on AI data centre demand; analysts quiz margins

Corning reported third-quarter revenue of $5.08 billion, up 18.9% year on year and 0.7% above analyst estimates of $5.05 billion. Adjusted earnings per share were $0.91, against expectations of $0.88. Chief executive officer Wendell Weeks credited strong demand in optical communications and fast adoption of AI-driven data center products. Operating margin rose to 17.9% from 13.8% a year earlier. For the fourth quarter, Corning expects revenue of about $5.25 billion and adjusted EPS of $0.98 at the midpoint. Analysts had forecast $5.20 billion and $0.93. On the earnings call, chief financial officer Edward Schlesinger said optical margins have reached the low 20s but the company is not ready to set new targets. Weeks said exposure to Chinese fiber is declining because of higher shipping and integration costs.

Earnings roundup: Corning grows, Enphase stumbles, Tesla on autopilot, Nextpower sets records.

Earnings roundup: Corning grows, Enphase stumbles, Tesla on autopilot, Nextpower sets records. Four major U.S. clean energy companies reported mixed third-quarter financial results this week, reflecting booming demand for utility-scale equipment and grid storage alongside a struggling residential solar market hampered by the loss of federal tax credits. Oct 29 2026 Companies in the solar industry are reporting mixed results as they reveal performance for Q3 2026. While demand and revenues remain high for upstream suppliers and utility-scale players, companies with heavy exposure to the small-scale distributed market are struggling as the downward trend continues following the end of the Section 25D tax credits last year. * Solar tracker company Nextpower hit record numbers for revenue and bookings as it expands beyond its historical core business * Demand for energy storage products from Tesla has the company's Megapack battery capacity nearly booked for 2027 * Corning's solar revenue was up 37% year-over-year and demand is looking strong in the wake of Section 232 tariffs * Enphase delivered revenue numbers lower than expected and issued lower guidance for Q4 Below are details about each company's recent financial performance. Nextpower sets records Nextpower (formerly Nextracker) built its business around single-axis solar trackers, but the company's latest earnings highlight how rapidly it is expanding into new, non-tracker product categories, including energy storage, eBOS, foundations and inverters. In fact, non-tracker products accounted for roughly 22% of revenue and over 20% of bookings during the quarter (up from 14% in prior periods). Overall, Nexpower reported a record $1.11 billion in revenue, representing a 23% year-over-year increase in sales. Due to the strong quarter, Nextpower raised its full-year fiscal 2027 guidance across the board, now projecting revenue of $4.2 billion to $4.45 billion and more than $500 million in free cash flow. "We ended the quarter with over $1 billion of cash and cash equivalents and no debt, while funding new acquisitions and returning approximately $162 million to shareholders through share repurchases," said Nextpower CFO Chuck Boynton in a statement. "We look forward to sharing more about our long-term strategy and financial framework at our Capital Markets Day in Las Vegas on November 16th." Tesla steady as she goes Tesla reported a total revenue of $28.0 billion, representing a flat performance compared to the prior year. The company deployed 13.7 GWh of energy storage during the quarter, bringing its 2026 year-to-date total to 36 GWh. Despite strong deployments, revenue from Tesla's energy generation and storage business fell 16% year-over-year to $2.88 billion. During the company's earnings call, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that demand remains "very strong," noting that Megapack inventory is nearly sold out through the end of 2027 due to heavy demand for global data center infrastructure. The company also began delivering Megapacks featuring its own in-house LFP batteries. Tesla stayed mum during the earnings presentation about its plans to manufacture solar cells in the United States. Tesla officials mentioned the word "solar" only once, with CFO Vaibhav Taneja sharing that the company planned to increase its CapEx spend over the next few years as it does "a lot of hardcore, real grunt work to get production facilities up and running." Taneja said that grunt work would include the addition of new solar manufacturing capacity. Corning solar growing, but ramping slowly The solar segment at Corning is booming, but the company says it isn't done yet. Although it represented just 8.6% of the company's overall $5.08 billion in revenue for Q3, Corning's solar business grew 37% year-over-year, and the company expects it to eventually deliver $3 billion in annual revenue, with margins greater than the company's average. But first comes some growing pains. Although the segment's sales grew, the company reported a net loss on its solar business of $7 million for the quarter, compared to a $30 million net income in the same period last year. Management noted that the production ramp at its solar wafer and module facilities has been slower than anticipated, which is weighing on current profitability. They expect output and profitability to improve slowly and steadily as productivity increases. Despite its own forays into new businesses (the company just reported a successful test of its IQ Solid-State Transformer aimed at AI data centers, which converts 13.8 kV AC power to 800 VDC), Enphase's core microinverter and battery businesses are tied to residential solar business, which has been the lowest-performing segment in the broader U.S. solar industry since the end of the Section 25D tax credits at the end of 2025. The company's total revenue for Q3 2026 was $293.3 million, down 28.5% year-over-year from $410.4 million in Q3 2025. In addition, Enphase issued soft guidance for Q4 2026, driven by persistent high interest rates and ongoing weakness in residential solar. In the company's earnings call, ROTH Capital partners analyst Philip Shen asked about the company's 2027 outlook, noting that his firm had just released numbers that anticipate lower revenues in the coming year even compared to the historically-down 2026. In response to the question, Enphase COO Badrinarayanan Kothandaraman noted it was "difficult for us to see how 2027 is," and pointed to high interest rates and unclear guidance about FEOC restrictions as a main driver of that uncertainty. Shen's organization has historically been bullish on Enphase, but the firm recently downgraded its opinion of the company to neutral based on the recent earnings and guidance. "We continue to think highly of this management team, and we applaud how the company has navigated these challenging times," ROTH analysts wrote in their post-earnings report on the company, but said the downgrade was necessary because "[t]here are just so many variables that are out of management's control, including elevated/rising interest rates, elevated/rising commodity prices, Treasury's FEOC/PFE guidance, and deteriorating AI sentiment." Still, Enphase management said the company sees a path to success in the coming year, anticipating roughly 50% growth in residential battery shipments next year, a growth in commercial revenue from around $30 million in 2026 to over $100 million in 2027 and broad uptake of its bidirectional EV charging solution from major automotive OEMs. This content is protected by copyright and may not be reused.
