Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree with certification in a relevant field such as recreational therapy, music therapy, art therapy, or occupational therapy.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a field relevant to the therapy specialty area or a combination of education and experience is preferred.
  • A CTRS, TRS/TXC, or TRA/TXC license is required.
  • Must obtain and maintain approved CPR certification before assuming patient care responsibility.
  • Must successfully complete Management of Aggressive Behavior training, including restraint and seclusion policies, before assuming patient care responsibility.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric and addictive disease diagnoses and treatment, patient rights, and laws pertaining to mental health.
  • Advanced knowledge and clinical skills in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions.
  • Basic PC skills, including Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel, with the ability to type at least 30 words per minute.
  • Must successfully pass a background check, drug screen, and physical examination and provide positive employment references.
  • Must be able to perform the listed physical demands, including standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pulling, lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds, and repetitive wrist, hand, or finger motions.
Responsibilities
  • Provide therapeutic recreational and activity services to adult, adolescent, and child patients under care for emotional or substance abuse problems.
  • Develop and implement therapeutic treatment plans using activity therapy theory and methodology.
  • Participate in formulating patient treatment plans, including treatment goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and document patient progress toward treatment goals and objectives in group notes and through individual and family sessions.
  • Consult with doctors, case managers, nursing staff, and outpatient treatment providers as needed to provide patient care.
  • Conduct individual therapy with patients.
  • Conduct family therapy sessions for patients and family members.
  • Provide process-oriented group therapy and conduct educational and other didactic groups as assigned.
  • Report patient issues to community and state agencies as required by law.
  • Represent the hospital in legal proceedings as required.
  • Comply with facility safety, infection control, and security programs.
  • Uphold the organization's ethics and customer service standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree.
  • Licensed eligibility or an additional certification or license.
  • Healthcare experience.
  • Inpatient psychiatric experience.
  • Teaching or training experience.
