- Ability to plan paid time off in advance, adapt to different clinical settings, prioritize work, meet deadlines, enter progress notes promptly, and prepare for meetings.
- Ability to use therapeutic-option de-escalation techniques, universal precautions, injection administration, Narcan administration and education, hazardous medication disposal, and sharps disposal.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including occasional lifting or moving of up to 15 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Perform psychiatric nursing assessments and medication management for consumers in the Emergency Psychiatric Services setting.
- Interpret and process providers' medication orders for consumers.
- Provide medication teaching and education for consumers.
- Provide ongoing assessment of consumers while in Emergency Psychiatric Services.
- Provide referrals to hospitalization, diversion services, or other recommended dispositions.
- Work collaboratively with all disciplines within the Emergency Psychiatric Services team.
- Provide active listening and problem-solving support to consumers.
- Monitor consumers' behavior, level of cooperation, and ability to remain safe while in Emergency Psychiatric Services.
- Observe and record consumers' use of medication as prescribed.
- Perform medical clearances as needed.
- Prioritize customer service for internal and external customers.
- Assist consumers in other Emergency Psychiatric Services units as needed.
- Attend scheduled nursing and Mental Health Cooperative staff meetings.
- Arrange disposition to home, hospital, or other diversion services as necessary.
- Maintain and facilitate communication regarding consumers' care with relevant staff.
- Screen for substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms.
- Screen for danger to self or others.
- Formulate mutually agreed-upon, measurable treatment goals and objectives with the consumer served.
- Provide general guidance and health education to consumers.
- Maintain a professional demeanor in all settings and situations.
- Suggest innovative ways to improve efficiency, care, and provision for consumers' needs.
- Use the electronic health record proficiently.
- Cross-train in other Emergency Psychiatric Services areas.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment free of sharps and other potentially harmful objects.
- Complete medication audits as outlined by the agency.
