Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field and 10–15 years of industry experience in Systems, Embedded Software, and Safety Engineering in the automotive domain; alternatively, a Master's degree with 3+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience, or a PhD with 2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
  • At least 2 years of work experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Java, or Python.
  • At least 4 years of experience with ISO 26262, specifically Parts 4 and 6.
  • Experience in functional safety software architecture in the automotive domain, including safety software architecture specification, safety requirements definition, and safety software development.
  • Expertise in safety analysis techniques such as HARA, FMEA, FTA, HAZOP, and DFA.
  • Experience defining software architecture, software design, and implementation of ADAS/AD stacks and ADAS/AD solutions for automotive system-on-chip platforms.
  • Knowledge and experience developing electronic control unit ADAS/AD software for the automotive industry.
  • Experience working with system-on-chip board support packages and middleware frameworks such as Adaptive AUTOSAR and Classic AUTOSAR.

Responsibilities
  • Lead functional safety activities for ADAS/AD stack development and ensure ISO 26262 compliance for software architecture, development processes, and work products.
  • Lead the functional safety architecture for the ADAS/AD solution, including the ADAS stack, related components, Tier-1 and Tier-2 ADAS/AD software architecture, and integration with the system-on-chip platform.
  • Act as the primary customer interface for functional safety and SOTIF topics, driving alignment, risk management, and milestone readiness.
  • Lead customer, original equipment manufacturer, Tier-1, and partner engagements from a safety perspective.
  • Influence platform-level safety and system engineering strategy.
  • Lead ISO 26262 Part 2 activities, including planning, coordination, reporting, and assessment readiness.
  • Drive concept-phase ISO 26262 Part 3 work products, including hazard analysis and risk assessment and concept definitions, and align them with stakeholders.
  • Lead functional safety activities for the ADAS/AD solution from ISO 26262 Parts 4 and 6.
  • Own system-level ISO 26262 Part 4 work products, including the Technical Safety Concept, technical safety requirements, system architecture alignment, and the Safety Case.
  • Own and manage the Development Interface Agreement, including responsibilities, work-product exchange, and assumptions.
  • Communicate and coordinate functional safety topics within projects.
  • Conduct and support ISO 26262 and SOTIF/ISO 21448 analyses, including HARA, FMEA, FTA, HAZOP, DFA, STPA, and RRA, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Lead and coordinate SOTIF work packages, planning, and status tracking.
  • Ensure requirements management and traceability.
  • Ensure adherence to software safety methods and metrics.
  • Work with vendors and partners to ensure that supplied components fulfill functional safety requirements.
  • Work with internal and external functional safety assessors to ensure compliance with ISO 26262.
  • Work with cybersecurity architects and analyze the impact of ISO 21434 on the safety life cycle.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hands-on SOTIF analysis experience compliant with ISO 21448.
  • Knowledge of ISO 8800, artificial intelligence and machine learning systems, or safety of artificial intelligence systems.
  • Hands-on experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS and Codebeamer and with establishing traceability for functional safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of Automotive SPICE, safety analyses, and requirements management.
  • Expertise with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis and Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Experience applying Safety Element out of Context according to ISO 26262.
  • Hands-on experience applying Systems-Theoretic Process Analysis for SOTIF analysis.
  • Certification in ISO 26262, ISO 21448, ISO 21434, or ISO 8800.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity compliance under ISO 21434 and its impact on the safety life cycle.
  • Experience combining software architecture and safety architecture with a background in design and implementation.
  • Understanding of system-on-chip architecture, ARM architecture, system-on-chip peripherals, low-level board support package software, drivers, and real-time operating systems.
  • Understanding of operating systems such as Linux, QNX, and real-time operating systems.
  • Experience leading safety architecture activities for complex system-on-chip software.
  • Programming experience in C and C++.
  • Experience with static analysis and code coverage tools.
  • Knowledge of tools and methods for functional safety and ISO 26262, including requirements management, static and dynamic analysis, safety analysis, safety software design, implementation, and testing.

Qualcomm and Amazon ink $60B server chip deal — but will it succeed where Qualcomm failed in 2018?

Qualcomm announced Tuesday that Amazon could purchase up to $60 billion of its server chips over the next decade. The companies will co-develop customised silicon for Amazon Web Services data centres, beginning with AI inference chips. This marks Qualcomm's second attempt at the server chip market. In 2017, the company launched its Centriq 2400 processor but shut down the business within a year after failing to secure volume orders. The data centre group shrank from over 1,000 employees to about 50 by late 2018. This time, Amazon's commitment includes binding purchase agreements. Qualcomm issued Amazon warrants for 25 million shares at $161.26, which vest based on executed commercial agreements and actual chip purchases capped at $60 billion through 2036.

Samsung invests $13M in BlueStacks' GamePop Android gaming platform

BlueStacks, maker of the GamePop platform that streams Android games to televisions, has received $13 million in investment from Samsung. The funding reflects shared goals between the companies to expand mobile gaming experiences to other platforms. Intel, Qualcomm, Andreessen Horowitz and Redpoint also back the project, dubbed the "Netflix of games". BlueStacks CEO Rosen Sharma says they aim to bring popular mobile content to living rooms worldwide, noting a shift in gaming preferences among younger players. Last year, BlueStacks launched a compact "free version" of the device requiring a $7 monthly subscription. The Ouya competitor offers over 500 Android games. The original GamePop was discontinued shortly after the GamePop Mini launched.

Qualcomm shifts focus to data center with $15B target, quietly deprioritises laptop chip story

Qualcomm has shifted its growth narrative away from laptop chips towards data centre revenue. The company nearly doubled its non-handset revenue target to $40 billion by fiscal 2029, with over $15 billion expected from data centres and more than $24 billion from automotive and IoT combined. The Snapdragon X Series for laptops, once a flagship product, now receives minimal mention in earnings calls. Instead, Qualcomm forecasts $5 billion in data centre revenue for fiscal 2027, starting with two custom silicon wins. Automotive remains a bright spot, with fiscal Q3 2026 sales reaching a record $1.6 billion, up 61% year over year. An expanded BMW partnership made Qualcomm the lead compute silicon provider for the carmaker's next-generation ADAS and digital cockpit systems.

Amazon partners with Qualcomm on AI inference chips as shares slip 1.3%

Amazon announced a multigeneration partnership with Qualcomm to develop AI inference chips and optical networking technology capable of 1.6 terabits per second. The company's shares fell approximately 1.3% in early trading following the news. AWS generated $42.2 billion in second-quarter revenue, up 37%, with operating income reaching $16.6 billion. Amazon reported that both its chip franchise and broader AI business surpassed $25 billion in annual revenue run rates. Under the partnership, Qualcomm will help design Amazon hardware whilst using more AWS infrastructure and AI services for its own semiconductor development. AWS posted an operating margin of roughly 39.3%. The companies did not disclose pricing, purchase commitments, or a deployment timetable for the collaboration.
