Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree and 3 years of relevant experience with COA certification, or 5 years of relevant experience and COA certification, or an equivalent combination of education and experience with COA certification.
  • Current certification and knowledge of current trends and developments in the ophthalmic technical field.
Responsibilities
  • Function as a specialist and/or educator in various disciplines of Ophthalmology and assist with supervisory duties or act in the supervisor's absence.
  • Perform complex technical assignments requiring theoretical insight, interpretation, planning, and modification of methods and techniques.
  • Coordinate the daily activities of assigned ophthalmic technicians and develop weekly technician schedules.
  • Maintain a presence on the clinical floor to ensure efficient patient flow and troubleshoot across services as needed.
  • Oversee the ophthalmic technician training program, including one-on-one training, faculty feedback, lecture-series development, guidance on the technician incentive program, and collaboration with the diagnostic services team on training and skill enhancement.
  • Perform as an ophthalmic technician and cover specialty services during staffing shortages, interacting with patients and department personnel to meet patient and faculty needs.
  • Chair bi-monthly technician team meetings and ensure follow-up items are addressed.
  • Attend pertinent departmental meetings to address technician-related items.
  • Work with the Faculty Practice Manager to assess and analyze technician supply and demand for the department.
  • Provide weekly feedback to the Faculty Practice Manager about staffing concerns, performance issues, and organizational improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with recruitment and hiring of ophthalmic technicians and provide input on their performance evaluations in conjunction with the Faculty Practice Manager.
Desired Qualifications
  • COT certification.
