SpaceX designs, builds, and launches rockets and spacecraft for government and commercial customers, using reusable first stages to cut costs. Its Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy recover their boosters to enable rapid reuse, while Dragon transports cargo and crew to the International Space Station. Starlink operates a satellite internet constellation to provide global broadband coverage. It earns revenue from launches and merchandise, with the broader goal of making space travel cheaper and, over time, enabling human life on other planets and expanding global internet access.

What believers are saying

  • August 2026 EchoStar spectrum purchase expands Direct to Cell and deepens carrier leverage.
  • VinSpace signed a 2027 rideshare deal on August 11, broadening international launch demand.
  • Reuters says SpaceX targets a late-August Starship flight carrying upgraded Starlink V3 satellites.

What critics are saying

  • Reuters says Falcon 9 is booked through 2028 or 2029, crowding out customers.
  • Seventy-plus Texas homeowners sued over Starship launches on May 1, 2026.
  • If Starship slips again, Starlink expansion, rideshares, and Mars ambitions lose their cost basis.

What makes SpaceX unique

  • Falcon 9 cadence and Starlink demand vertically integrate launch, broadband, and spectrum control.
  • Starship promises fully reusable heavy lift, enabling cheaper orbital logistics after 2026.
  • SpaceX combines civilian, military, and consumer customers across launches, Direct to Cell, and Starshield.

SpaceX AI revenue to surpass connectivity and space products by September, says Musk

Elon Musk has declared that SpaceX's AI revenue will overtake all other company revenue by September, marking a dramatic shift in the company's identity. Speaking to employees in an 11 August all-hands meeting, Musk predicted AI would "significantly exceed" other revenue streams by Q4. This represents a steep climb from Q2 figures, when AI generated $2.56 billion of SpaceX's $7.81 billion in quarterly sales, whilst connectivity products brought in $4.29 billion and space products $962 million. Musk also revealed plans to train Grok on the "sum total" of SpaceX information, telling employees they would be "parents of the AI." The announcement raises questions about data collection methods, particularly after Meta faced backlash for training AI on employee keystrokes earlier this year.

Musk says SpaceX AI revenue will overtake rocket and satellite business by September

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk told employees that artificial intelligence revenue will surpass all other company earnings by September, according to a video released on X. He projected AI could generate $300 billion to $500 billion annually by 2028, based on a target of 10 gigawatts of computing capacity. In the second quarter, SpaceX reported total revenue of $7.81 billion, up 92% year-on-year. AI contributed approximately $2.56 billion, whilst Connectivity and Space operations combined for $5.25 billion. Goldman Sachs estimates AI revenue could reach $15.6 billion in 2026 following new computing contracts with Anthropic and Google. However, the company faces significant power constraints and opposition to methane-producing gas turbines powering its Colossus data centres.

Musk: AI will be 99% of SpaceX's value within 5 years, $100B boost for NVIDIA

Elon Gathered SpaceX employees and declared that artificial intelligence will constitute 99% of the company's value within five years, marking a strategic pivot from its rocket business roots. He said AI revenue will surpass all other space revenue in September. SpaceX reported Q2 AI revenue of $2.6 billion, up 213% sequentially, as part of total revenue that climbed 92% to $7.8 billion. The company secured $14.1 billion in contracted cloud services agreements. Musk committed SpaceX's AI infrastructure to NVIDIA's Vera Rubin architecture, targeting 20 gigawatts of power capacity by 2027. SpaceX ended Q2 with 1.4 gigawatts of compute capacity. Melius Research analyst Ben Reitzes estimates this commitment could generate roughly $100 billion in incremental NVIDIA revenue. NVIDIA posted Q1 revenue of $81.6 billion, up 85% year over year.

Musk says Grok AI will be trained on SpaceX employee data to 'inherit' their values

Elon Musk announced at a SpaceX all-hands meeting that the company will train its Grok AI on employee data. "We're going to be training Grok on the sum total of all SpaceX information," Musk said, suggesting this would imbue the AI with desirable values from what he called "some of the very best humans on Earth." The specifics of what employee data will be used remain unclear. SpaceX absorbed Musk's AI startup xAI before going public in a record-breaking IPO and recently launched Grok Bot, an AI agent designed to perform computer tasks autonomously. The move follows similar initiatives by other tech companies. Meta launched a programme in April to collect employee keystrokes and mouse movements for AI training, though it was paused in June after backlash.

SpaceXAI launches Grok Bot workplace tool following $60B Anysphere acquisition

Elon Musk's AI company SpaceXAI has launched Grok Bot, a workplace tool that uses multiple AI agents to log into apps and websites, remember tasks, and share context across workflows. The company is already using it internally across engineering, growth, and marketing teams. SpaceXAI said the tool has helped its sales team find new accounts and draft emails, whilst the finance team has used it to pull receipts from email. The company is offering Grok Bot to businesses through business and enterprise plans, but hasn't disclosed pricing. The release follows SpaceXAI's $60 billion agreement in June to acquire Cursor parent Anysphere. Grok Bot enters a market where OpenAI and Anthropic have already deployed enterprise AI agents, though security concerns remain a hurdle slowing adoption.
