About the company

SpaceX designs, builds, and launches rockets and spacecraft for government and commercial customers, using reusable first stages to cut costs. Its Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy recover their boosters to enable rapid reuse, while Dragon transports cargo and crew to the International Space Station. Starlink operates a satellite internet constellation to provide global broadband coverage. It earns revenue from launches and merchandise, with the broader goal of making space travel cheaper and, over time, enabling human life on other planets and expanding global internet access.

Elon Musk predicts solar will dominate energy as Texas sees solar overtake nuclear

Elon Musk predicted solar power will eventually dominate energy production, reducing all other sources to below 0.1%. He commented on social media platform X after venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya highlighted accelerating solar deployment. Texas exemplifies this shift. ERCOT data shows solar supplied 10.4% of the state's electricity in 2024, overtaking nuclear at 8.4%. Installed solar capacity rose from 698 MW in 2016 to 37,443 MW in 2025. Tesla is considering a $10.1 billion solar-cell plant in Fort Bend County, Texas. Musk said Tesla and SpaceX are each building towards 100 GW per year of solar-production capacity, though he acknowledged natural gas will still be needed for several years.

SpaceX targets $100B revenue despite $25B negative cash flow and AI division losses

SpaceX's CFO Bret Johnsen said the company has "even more conviction" it can reach a $100 billion annual revenue run rate by year-end. A new AI hosting agreement worth $1.11 billion monthly, or roughly $13 billion annualised, supports this outlook. The company plans to scale its terrestrial AI-computing capacity from just over 2 gigawatts this year to between 5 and 10 gigawatts in 2027. However, SpaceX's AI division posted a $1.3 billion loss in the second quarter, offsetting $1.1 billion in combined operating income from its rocket and Starlink businesses. The company generated roughly negative $25 billion in free cash flow during the first half of 2026. The stock declined more than 5% following the results.

Anthropic CEO calls for AI slowdown, threatening SpaceX's $45B data centre deal

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has called for a slowdown in AI development, citing concerns about the technology's rapid progress and recent cybersecurity events. This could impact SpaceX, which signed a massive deal with Anthropic in May to rent computing capacity potentially worth $45 billion through May 2029. SpaceX, which acquired Elon Musk's xAI earlier this year, views AI as a $26.5 trillion market opportunity. The company has signed similar deals with Alphabet and Reflection AI, with CFO Bret Johnsen projecting the AI business could reach $100 billion in annual revenue by end of 2026. However, most customers can exit their infrastructure agreements with 90 days' notice. SpaceX stock trades at a price-to-sales ratio of 87.3 and is down 34% from its all-time high, leaving room for further decline if AI spending slows.

SpaceX targets first orbital Starship flight for 22 September with 26 Starlink V3 satellites

SpaceX is preparing to send Starship to orbit for the first time, targeting 22 September for the rocket's 14th test flight. The mission will deploy 26 of Starlink's next-generation V3 satellites, marking Starship's first revenue-generating cargo. Each V3 satellite can handle 1 terabit per second of downlink capacity, roughly 10 times current generation capabilities. A full load should add approximately 20 times the network capacity of a Falcon 9 launch. Starlink subscribers reached 12 million by June, double the previous year's count. CEO Elon Musk confirmed SpaceX won't attempt to catch the booster or ship during this flight. The company's space segment posted a $542 million operating loss in Q2 2026, wider than the previous year's $369 million loss, driven by research and development spending approaching $1.1 billion.

SpaceX's Starlink tipped to double subscriber count to 24M by 2027

SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet service reached 12 million subscribers by June 2026, doubling its customer base from a year earlier and adding 1.7 million in the second quarter alone. The service's growth has been accelerating despite the expanding base. One analyst predicts Starlink will double again to 24 million subscribers by the end of 2027. This would require adding approximately 2 million customers per quarter, slightly above the 1.5 million quarterly average from the past year. Average revenue per user fell to $66 per month in Q2 from $85 a year earlier, whilst subscriber growth accelerated. Starlink is developing next-generation V3 satellites to increase network capacity. SpaceX conducted 78 launches in the first half of 2026, sending over 1,000 metric tonnes into orbit, mostly Starlink satellites.
