Responsibilities
  • Perform technical computed tomography procedures and assist with the clinical evaluation and care of patients under the direction of the Medical Director, Section Head, Clinical Specialist, Manager, and Radiologist.
  • Create diagnostic images using computed tomography and provide patients with a safe and positive experience.
  • Perform trauma, emergency-room, outpatient, inpatient, intensive-care, research-patient, and specialized CT scan-guided procedures.
  • Practice and enforce radiation-safety measures in accordance with New York State Department of Health Code Part 16.
  • Maintain competent imaging skills in the assigned modality.
  • Practice in compliance with hospital and department policies and New York State and accrediting-agency standards.
  • Assist physicians in all aspects of procedures in the assigned area.
  • Remain available for on-call responsibilities when applicable.
  • Rotate through the main department and satellite areas.
  • Mentor and precept new staff and students.
  • Support Albany Medical Center and the imaging department in maintaining required accreditations.
  • Enter patient data accurately into computer systems.
  • Perform quality assurance on images and patient information before sending them to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
  • Provide patient care appropriate to each patient's age and special characteristics.
  • Obtain peripheral intravenous access and inject contrast material when required.
  • Maintain stock supplies and linen in the examination room.
  • Complete light housekeeping duties as needed.
  • Incorporate the Patient Bill of Rights and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements into practice.
  • Participate in the development and attainment of unit, department, and divisional goals.
  • Follow unit and human-resources policies.
  • Maintain direct, honest, open, and professional relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
  • Use effective problem-solving and resolution skills.
  • Support Joint Commission standards.
  • Validate knowledge, skill level, and decision-making and seek guidance when needed.
  • Complete required hospital and departmental education.
