DP World launches first FMCG Contract Logistics hub in Italy.

DP World launches first FMCG Contract Logistics hub in Italy. BOLOGNA, Italy, Oct. 27, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - DP World has launched its first Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) Contract Logistics operation in Italy, opening a 22,000 m^2 temperature-controlled, multi-customer facility near Bologna designed to serve customers across the food and beverage industry, as well as e-commerce and consumer goods sectors. The move builds on DP World's existing logistics presence in one of Europe's largest consumer and manufacturing markets and strengthens its Contract Logistics capabilities in the food and beverage sector. From Castel San Pietro Terme, near Bologna, DP World will combine warehousing, transport, e-commerce fulfilment and value-added logistics services to provide integrated, end-to-end supply chain solutions for customers in Italy and across Europe. The operation was established through a strategic partnership with Alce Nero, an Italian organic food company and the site's anchor customer. Under the partnership, DP World manages key elements of Alce Nero's logistics operations, including warehousing, e-commerce fulfilment and transportation, allowing the company to focus its resources on growing its core business and future growth. Rainer Schmid, CCO, DP World Europe, said: "Launching our first FMCG Contract Logistics operation in Italy is an important milestone for DP World. Italy is a key European market, and expanding our capabilities here strengthens our network while opening new opportunities in the food and beverage sector. "Our partnership with Alce Nero is a strong example of how we want to grow: by starting with a customer need, building the right solution around it and creating capabilities that can then support other businesses in the market." The operation includes temperature-controlled storage at 18-20°C, organic product handling capabilities and integrated logistics technology. These capabilities enable the operation to support a range consumables businesses, including premium and organic brands, alongside customers in e-commerce, consumer goods and technology. The 22,000 m^2 multi-customer operation has approximately 30,000 pallet positions and capacity to support additional customers. Its location near Bologna provides access to Italy's domestic market and major European transport corridors, creating a platform for DP World to expand its Contract Logistics offering as customer demand grows. Renzo Patelli, General Manager, Alce Nero Spa, said: "We are very pleased with the launch of our partnership with DP World. Finding the right logistics partner was an important process for Alce Nero, given the complexity of our business model, which brings together different supply chains, members, partners and customers across multiple channels, each with specific requirements and logistics flows. "This partnership gives us a more integrated approach to managing that complexity and will help make our logistics operations more efficient, flexible and responsive as we pursue further growth in Italy and internationally. It will also allow us to focus even more closely on our core business: producing and bringing to market high-quality organic food that reflects the values that have always guided Alce Nero." The expansion builds on DP World's existing logistics presence in Italy and strengthens its wider European network, supporting the company's strategy to provide customers with increasingly integrated, end-to-end supply chain solutions. Arctic Gateway Group, centreport Canada and DP World sign Memorandum of Understanding to grow trade.

Arctic Gateway Group, centreport Canada and DP World sign Memorandum of Understanding to grow trade. Partnership will build stronger connections between the Port of Churchill, CentrePort Canada and DP World's global logistics network. Winnipeg, Manitoba, Oct. 26, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - Arctic Gateway Group ("AGG"), CentrePort Canada Inc. ("CentrePort"), and DP World (Canada) Inc. ("DP World") have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to pursue strategic trade growth opportunities. This agreement focuses on port operations, logistics services, and the potential development of an integrated transportation corridor linking the Port of Churchill, the Hudson Bay Railway, CentrePort Canada, and DP World's global logistics network. This recognizes the importance of strong and diversified supply chains and the growing need for additional transportation corridors to help connect businesses with global markets. It also acknowledges that effective trade infrastructure is built with business realities and private sector perspective at the forefront. Manitoba's trade and transportation assets are seeing growing national and international interest. In recent years, CentrePort Canada has attracted approximately $1.5 billion in private investment and is home to over 1,000 companies. There has been more than 3.5 million square feet of industrial space built or under construction in the past 8 years alone. At the same time, the Port of Churchill is shipping the most diverse range of commodities in its history, including critical minerals, grain, potash and northern supply to Nunavut, with active conversations underway on driving private sector investment to further modernize and grow exports. With the expertise and investment interest from proven, global port operator DP World, who handles over one million TEUs in Canada annually, Manitoba's key inland and coastal ports are poised for even further growth. This includes the potential to connect Europe and Asia intermodally through Canada to establish new, secure and trusted trade options. By bringing together northern, inland and global trade infrastructure and expertise, the agreement will support more reliable supply chains, strengthen Canada's trade corridors, and improve access to international markets. This agreement brings together the complementary strengths of: * Arctic Gateway Group, owner and operator of the Port of Churchill and Hudson Bay Railway, with its unique Indigenous and community ownership model; * CentrePort Canada, Canada's largest and most established tri-modal inland port and Foreign Trade Zone, connecting businesses to truck, rail and air cargo transportation; and * DP World, a world leader in end-to-end supply chain solutions, specializing in cargo logistics, port terminal operations, maritime services, and free trade zones. "Manitoba has a big role to play in building a stronger Canadian economy. The Port of Churchill gives us a direct connection to global markets, and partnerships with CentrePort Canada and DP World will help us get more Canadian products to the world. This is about creating good jobs, bringing new investment to Manitoba and making sure our province is part of Canada's economic future," said the Honourable Wab Kinew, Premier of Manitoba. "Canada is building stronger, more resilient trade corridors that connect Canadian businesses to markets around the world," said The Honourable Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Transport and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons. "This agreement between the Arctic Gateway Group, CentrePort, and DP World is an important opportunity to strengthen connections between northern, inland and global transportation networks, diversify our routes, and create new opportunities for Canadian exporters." "This year has brought the most diverse mix of commodities ever shipped through the Port of Churchill, and there is growing international attention on what we are building in Manitoba's North," said Chris Avery, President & CEO, Arctic Gateway Group. "We want to build on that momentum together with our partners at CentrePort Canada and with the global expertise of DP World. By better integrating Churchill with Manitoba's inland transportation and trade infrastructure, we can create a truly unified trade corridor, connecting Western Canadian resources to new markets and diversifying Canadian trade for a stronger future." "Inland ports play an important role in extending the reach of seaports and connecting them to national and global supply chains," said Carly Edmundson, President & CEO, CentrePort Canada Inc. "DP World's expertise and network will further help companies access the four trade corridors that intersect at CentrePort: The Arctic gateway via the Port of Churchill, as well as the Mid-Continent, Asia Pacific, and eastern gateways." "Canada's long-term trade competitiveness depends on having resilient, diversified corridors that connect Canadian businesses and commodities to markets around the world," said Doug Smith, CEO of DP World in Canada. "This agreement is an opportunity to explore how the Port of Churchill, the Hudson Bay Railway and CentrePort Canada can connect more effectively with DP World's global network and end-to-end logistics capabilities. By bringing together complementary infrastructure and expertise, we can help strengthen Canada's supply chains, create new options for exporters and support the growth of trade through Manitoba and across the country." About Arctic Gateway Group The Arctic Gateway Group is a proudly Indigenous- and community-owned Manitoba company that owns and operates the Port of Churchill, Canada's only Arctic seaport serviced by rail, as well as the Hudson Bay Railway, operating from The Pas to Churchill. Together this northern infrastructure forms the nexus of Canada's Arctic Trade Corridor, providing a reliable and efficient route for Canadian resources to access world markets. www.arcticgateway.com About CentrePort Canada Home to over 1000 companies, CentrePort Canada is a 20,000-acre inland port and Foreign Trade Zone. Shoprite Freshmark connects local growers and cuts waste.

Shoprite Freshmark connects local growers and cuts waste. By Yanti Suryani October 22, 2026 The path that fresh fruit and vegetables take from the farm to the consumer is far more detailed than the simple "farm to fork" concept implies. Before reaching supermarket shelves, these products move through multiple stages - including growers, packing facilities, transportation networks, distribution centers, and retail outlets - each step impacting their freshness, quality, and food safety standards. Today's supply chain faces unprecedented challenges. Meanwhile, farmers contend with escalating production costs and climate-related uncertainties while facing ever-tighter quality standards. Combating food waste. For retailers, minimizing food waste represents one of the most effective strategies to improve both profitability and environmental sustainability. Advanced technologies now enable businesses to forecast demand with greater precision, optimize stock rotation, and quickly identify products nearing their sell-by dates before they become unsellable. Artificial intelligence is transforming waste reduction efforts, with global retailers utilizing predictive optimization software that has prevented an estimated 470 million kilograms of food from being discarded. By implementing "first expired, first out" inventory systems rather than traditional "first in, first out" methods, stores can prioritize products with the shortest remaining shelf life, significantly reducing inventory shrinkage while maintaining product availability. Modern 2D barcode technology has also transformed in-store operations. These advanced codes allow point-of-sale systems to automatically detect items approaching expiration and trigger promotional pricing, helping retailers move stock before quality declines. Shoprite Holdings exemplifies this approach through its Freshmark program, which sources up to 95 percent of its fresh produce directly from local growers. The initiative combines established commercial farms with emerging producers, ensuring reliable market access while maintaining consistent quality standards. One notable example is Bethel Estate in KwaZulu-Natal, which consolidates produce from approximately 100 small-scale women farmers for distribution through Shoprite's retail network. South Africa's fresh produce industry generates over R53 billion annually, with R32 billion flowing through direct supermarket purchases and R21 billion through the National Fresh Produce Markets. Investments in refrigeration technology and temperature-controlled logistics are expanding rapidly across South Africa, driven by the need to minimize losses and preserve freshness. Producers and logistics companies are increasingly adopting modular, solar-powered cold storage solutions that immediately remove field heat after harvest. Temperature control remains a major challenge, with research indicating that between 9,000 and 17,969 tonnes of fresh produce are lost annually at the Johannesburg Fresh Produce Market alone due to cold chain failures and handling inefficiencies. Expanding cold chain infrastructure. Major investments are transforming South Africa's logistics capabilities. Maersk's Belcon Cold Store near the Port of Cape Town represents part of the company's R1.7 billion commitment to cold chain infrastructure development. This facility expands refrigerated storage capacity and enhances handling for both domestic and export fresh produce. DP World and Woolworths have introduced Thermo King's AxlePower trailer technology in South Africa, which captures kinetic energy from trailer axles to power refrigeration units. By reducing dependence on diesel generators, this system cuts fuel consumption and emissions without compromising temperature control. Food Lover's Market's Seeds of Change Supplier Development Partnership has integrated 15 sustainable suppliers into formal retail channels since 2022. The program identifies and supports businesses that demonstrate both commercial potential and positive environmental or social impact. While specialty produce continues to grow, potatoes, onions, and tomatoes still form the core of South Africa's vegetable market, accounting for approximately 60.3 percent of total domestic demand. Their affordability, versatility, and year-round availability maintain their status as essential retail categories, particularly as consumers increasingly seek information about food origins and production methods. South Africa annually loses an estimated 10 million tonnes of edible food - roughly one-third of total food production. This system provides each product with a complete digital identity through a single QR code. SPAR's Rural Hub Program demonstrates how decentralized procurement can strengthen local supply chains. By helping smallholder farmers produce vegetables near regional retail markets, the initiative reduces transportation needs and limits post-harvest losses. The Living Soils Community Learning Farm, supported by Woolworths, offers a 12-month program covering regenerative agriculture, soil preparation, food safety, and commercial crop production. This initiative combines classroom instruction with hands-on experience.
