Tesla designs and sells electric vehicles and renewable energy products. Its cars (Model S, 3, X, Y, and Roadster) run on battery power, with a semi-autonomous Autopilot driving system and a global network of fast-charging stations called Superchargers. The company also provides solar panels, Solar Roof, and energy storage products (Powerwall, Powerpack, Megapack) to generate and store clean energy for homes and businesses. Tesla operates with a vertically integrated model, manufacturing key components (batteries, drivetrains) and selling directly to customers via its website and stores, while earning revenue from vehicle and energy product sales and regulatory credits. Its goal is to speed up the world’s transition to sustainable energy by combining mobility and energy solutions in one ecosystem.

Tesla UK sales drop 9% as Chinese EV rivals surge in popularity

Tesla's UK vehicle deliveries fell 9% to 45,239 units in 2025, whilst sales dropped 6% to £1.83 billion, according to accounts for the company's UK subsidiary. This follows a 21% revenue decline in 2024. The drop comes as Chinese rivals gain market share in Britain. The Jaecoo E5, made by Chery International, became the third most popular electric car in July, with none of Tesla's models featuring in the top 10. The E5 starts at £27,505, compared to around £38,000 for a Tesla Model 3. Unlike the EU and US, the UK has not imposed tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. Globally, Tesla's second-quarter profits fell 17% to $1.2 billion amid pricing pressures and reduced income from credits.

SpaceX buys $295M in Tesla Megapacks to power xAI data centres

SpaceX purchased $295 million of Tesla Megapack batteries during the second quarter, bringing first-half purchases to $329 million, according to a quarterly filing. The rocket maker had already bought $506 million worth of batteries and $131 million of Cybertrucks by end-2025. The timing suggests the batteries support xAI's data centres after SpaceX absorbed the AI company in February. Tesla says Megapacks provide reliable data-centre power and balance electricity supply. SpaceX's first earnings since its June IPO showed revenue nearly doubled to $7.81 billion. The AI segment generated $2.56 billion in revenue but lost $1.26 billion operationally. Total capital spending reached $18.37 billion, including $15.83 billion for AI infrastructure. Analysts now place odds of a Tesla-SpaceX merger between 80% and 90%.

Musk predicts money will become obsolete by 2036 as AI and robots slash costs

Elon Musk has claimed that money will become meaningless by 2036, as AI and humanoid robots drive down the cost of food, housing and transportation to near-zero levels. Speaking at Tesla's Texas Gigafactory in late July, the chief executive officer suggested that artificial intelligence will surpass "the sum of human intelligence within five years". Tesla reported record Q2 2025 deliveries of 480,126 vehicles and 25.5% year-on-year revenue growth to $28.24 billion. Active Full Self-Driving subscriptions reached 1.48 million, up 56% year-on-year. However, economists including Tyler Cowen and Noah Smith argue that cheap manufactured goods merely shift scarcity to status goods and prime real estate, rather than eliminating it. Polymarket assigns just a 14.5% probability that Tesla will release its Optimus humanoid robot by 31 December.

Tesla vs. Nvidia: Which robotics stock wins as $5T market emerges by 2050?

Morgan Stanley estimates the humanoid robotics market could reach $5 trillion by 2050, with both Nvidia and Tesla pursuing opportunities in the space. Nvidia has developed Isaac GR00T, a universal AI foundation model for humanoid robots, alongside its Halos safety system. The company's Jetson Thor supercomputer is used by Boston Dynamics and Amazon Robotics for AI training and simulation. CEO Jensen Huang stated Nvidia's physical AI revenue has reached a $10 billion annual run rate. He predicts it will become the company's "next $100 billion business" within 10 years. Nvidia currently generates $48.5 billion in free cash flow, demonstrating its ability to invest in growth whilst maintaining profitability. The company is positioning itself as a key infrastructure provider for the robotics industry.

Tesla down 28% in 2025 while SpaceX hits $1.5T valuation — which growth stock wins?

Tesla and SpaceX, both led by Elon Musk, attract growth-focused investors with ambitious visions in electric vehicles, robotics, and space travel. Both companies are valued above $1 trillion. Tesla's shares have fallen 28% in 2025 but maintain strong financials. The company generated roughly $104 billion in sales over the past four quarters, with $3.8 billion in net income. Free cash flow totalled $5.8 billion, supporting investments in robotaxis and humanoid robots planned for consumer sales next year. SpaceX remains unprofitable but offers substantial growth potential through projects including Mars missions and space-based data centres. The company's $1.5 trillion valuation reflects long-term ambitions. Tesla presents a more established business model with current profitability, whilst SpaceX offers higher-risk growth potential tied to future technological achievements.
