Requirements
  • A high school degree and technical/vocational certification are required.
  • A minimum of five years of electrical and mechanical systems maintenance experience in food manufacturing is required.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including basic programmable logic controller, servo driver, and servo motor error diagnosis, are required.
  • Experience with electrical, mechanical, plumbing, hydraulic, pneumatic, and computer control systems is required.
  • Sanitary fabrication skills are required.
  • Familiarity with food safety and good manufacturing practices is required.
  • Ability to use workshop tools including milling, welding, and lathe equipment is required.
  • Ability to execute preventive maintenance tasks and schedules is required.
  • Ability to frequently stand, lift, walk, reach, stoop, bend, smell, listen, speak, and see is required.
  • Ability to work around dangerous machinery and equipment, electrical, mechanical, and chemical hazards, high and constant noise, and damp or slick floors is required.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, pull, and lift up to 25 pounds and stand for long periods is required.
  • Close visual acuity to view a computer terminal, analyze reports, and manage data and details is required.
Responsibilities
  • Repair, maintain, and install production machinery, primarily resolving problems with electrical and electronic systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and machinery installation involving food-processing equipment, physical structures, and mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Diagnose, lay out, install, align, repair, overhaul, and maintain machines and mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Apply knowledge of programmable logic controllers, servo drives, and servo motors to diagnose errors.
  • Study blueprints and manufacturer manuals to determine correct machinery installation and operation.
  • Locate problems by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for problems, and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Fabricate small parts as needed to minimize downtime.
  • Execute preventive maintenance schedules to achieve uptime and downtime targets.
  • Partner with production and scheduling teams to exchange information on mechanical issues and control downtime.
  • Follow documentation procedures and standards to ensure effective communication between shifts and teams.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws and codes, company policies, safety requirements, food-safety requirements, and good manufacturing practices.
  • Apply safety practices, including arc and shock hazard safety, confined-space procedures, lockout and lockdown procedures, hazardous-materials safety, and hand-tool safety.
  • Partner with the engineering team regarding the operation of new machinery.
  • Work with the broader engineering team on machine operations and repairs to optimize maintenance schedules and outcomes.
  • Work rotating 12-hour swing shifts from 2:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., following a 2-on/3-off and 3-on/2-off schedule.
  • Work in processing environments with temperatures ranging from 5 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit and varying conditions based on work or project needs.
