About the job
- A valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Organize the execution of all tasks aboard the vessel and serve in a leadership role within the crew.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of the vessel crew.
- Inspect towing gear and lifesaving equipment, and instruct crew to repair or replace defective equipment.
- Direct crew activities involved in rigging towlines to barges or ships to be towed.
- Maintain accountability, welfare, and discipline of deckhands and assigned equipment.
- Assist in preparing, training, and leading newly assigned deckhands, and make performance recommendations to the Wheelhouse Manager.
- Ensure the timely submission and review of reports, forms, and other documents required by management.
- Coordinate with company customers at various terminals and contracted employees to achieve the desired outcome.
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Wheelhouse Manager.
