Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • At least 6 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
  • A Certified Industrial Hygienist certification from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing is required.
  • The candidate must have a thorough understanding of industrial hygiene practices and knowledge of occupational safety and environmental protection principles and regulations.
  • The candidate must be able to communicate technical information to a wide range of audiences.
  • The candidate must be able to achieve medical clearance and wear respiratory protection.
  • The candidate must respond to emergencies involving health hazards as directed.
  • A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check are required.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate exposures to workplace health hazards, including airborne contaminants, noise, temperature extremes, and ergonomic stressors, identify potential health concerns, and conduct industrial hygiene sampling when appropriate.
  • Develop recommendations to control health hazards and ensure employee well-being and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage assigned environmental health and safety programs, provide implementation guidance, develop training materials and tools, evaluate exposures for program applicability, assist with control measures, and ensure required medical surveillance.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive approach to managing lead, silica, formaldehyde, cadmium, carcinogens, and other materials individually regulated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
  • Evaluate associated exposures, create training materials, and assist in developing standard operating procedures for safe handling of regulated materials.
  • Review construction and modification plans for ventilation systems, gas monitoring systems, and other installations designed to control potential health exposures.
  • Provide consultation and recommendations to architects, engineers, and maintenance personnel to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Assess program metrics to identify performance goals and training opportunities.
  • Manage data associated with assigned programs and maintain records in accordance with regulatory and University requirements.
  • Serve as a team lead in responding to incidents that create potential health hazards and coordinate with environmental health and safety staff, campus units, police, fire, and contractors.
  • Support emergency team preparedness and review emergency responses.
  • Use specialized personal protective equipment, including respirators, and industrial hygiene monitoring equipment; enter hazardous environments; and conduct cleanup and decontamination activities for hazardous material spills when necessary.
  • Participate on the environmental health and safety team and support the departmental mission.
  • Assist other environmental health and safety staff and provide services to other environmental health and safety programs as needed.
  • Work with environmental health and safety staff to develop additional programs as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • A preferred degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, or a related discipline.
