Requirements
  • Provide evidence of education and experience necessary to demonstrate competence to teach assigned courses and develop and evaluate student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies within the institution's framework.
  • Hold a graduate degree. If the graduate degree is not in nursing, hold a bachelor's degree in nursing and a graduate degree in a related discipline from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
  • Have a minimum of three years of work experience as a professional registered nurse providing direct patient care.
  • Hold a current, unencumbered state professional registered nurse license or enhanced compact nurse licensure relevant to the state of the teaching location.
  • Maintain professional competence and expertise in teaching through activities such as nursing practice, continuing education programs, conferences, workshops, seminars, academic courses, research projects, and professional writing.
  • Perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, teach, and evaluate the philosophy and objectives of the nursing education program.
  • Design, implement, teach, evaluate, and revise the curriculum.
  • Document actions taken in faculty and committee meetings using a systematic plan of evaluation for total program review.
  • Lead simulation learning experiences in the nursing lab.
  • Teach and evaluate students in the classroom.
  • Design an effective learning environment that facilitates student learning and addresses contemporary issues in nursing.
  • Support students' academic progression and socialization into the nursing role.
  • Use a range of assessment tools to evaluate student learning.
  • Participate in the systematic plan for curriculum design, program evaluation, and program revision.
  • Work with Course Lead Faculty to develop student success plans and remediate at-risk students.
  • Facilitate nursing students' application of theory to clinical practice.
  • Attend healthcare facility or agency-based orientation.
  • Maintain knowledge of the overall program, program outcomes, and assigned course objectives.
  • Communicate with clinical agency representatives, staff, faculty, and students using professional techniques.
  • Identify and promptly communicate clinical problem areas and concerns to Course Lead Faculty, recommending changes and solutions as appropriate.
  • Communicate with Course Lead Faculty about student progress, clinical issues, suggestions, and professional learning needs.
  • Grade clinical papers and provide students with timely, clear feedback.
  • Maintain records of student performance, including Student Success Plans, Progressive Disciplinary Plans, and mid-term and final clinical evaluations.
  • Complete clinical site evaluations.
  • Adhere to and enforce the policies and procedures of Arizona College of Nursing and the assigned clinical facility.
  • Attend course faculty meetings during planning week to align clinical rotations with the didactic course.
  • Plan, teach, and evaluate classroom, clinical, skills-lab, and other learning experiences with team members.
  • Connect students with College resources for their success.
  • Participate in academic advisement and counseling of students as necessary.
  • Demonstrate and coach students on leadership and ethics, communication and critical thinking, teamwork and collaboration, and responsibility and dependability.
  • Attend campus-based orientation and faculty meetings when applicable.
  • Provide input into developing, evaluating, and revising program policies as applicable.
  • Protect student privacy by completing required FERPA training and upholding FERPA guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience teaching in a registered nursing program at a college or university.
  • Certified Nurse Educator certification and national certification in the area of nursing specialty.
