Responsibilities
Plan, organize, develop, administer, direct, and supervise occupational therapy treatment in accordance with applicable standards, regulations, guidelines, and hospital policies.
Provide direct patient care to adult and geriatric patients, including comprehensive assessment, treatment planning, and therapy.
Contribute to program development, quality improvement, program assessment, and departmental policy and procedure development.
Assess and interpret evaluations and test results, and determine occupational therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
Help patients develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities by implementing programs involving manual arts and crafts, functional, prevocational, vocational, and homemaking skills, activities of daily living, and sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities; direct aides, technicians, and assistants.
Select and construct therapies according to each individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interests to promote maximum independence.
Observe, note, and evaluate patient progress; recommend and implement adjustments and modifications to therapy based on results.
Complete discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers, and contribute to patient care conferences.
Design and instruct patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommend or provide assistive equipment; and recommend outpatient or home health follow-up programs to continue therapeutic plans after discharge.
Document patient care services in patient and department records.

POSITION SUMMARY
Using discretion and independent judgment, the Occupational Therapist plans, organizes, develops, administers, directs, and supervises Occupational Therapy treatment in accordance with current applicable Title 22, federal, state, and local standards, regulations and guidelines. The individual in this position must have initiative and be innovative, and must possess a sense of responsibility, integrity and sound judgment, follow standards of professional conduct, and abide by Central Valley Specialty Hospital's policies and standards of care. This position does provide direct patient care to adult and geriatric patients, including comprehensive assessment, treatment planning and provision of therapy.
The Occupational Therapist contributes to program development, quality improvement, program assessment, and departmental policy and procedure development.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing and instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment; recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
