About the job

Requirements
  • At least 5 years building production software across the stack, primarily with backend depth; fewer years may be considered with the right experience.
  • Experience building and shipping features end to end independently.
  • Experience building backend systems from the ground up and owning production at a startup, including setting up continuous integration, adding monitoring, and responding to pages and outages.
  • Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, including designing schemas from scratch and running migrations on actively used systems.
  • Experience building and maintaining third-party integrations and making defensible build-versus-buy decisions.
  • Take data security and privacy seriously.
  • Deep experience using AI and agentic coding tools to build, refine, and check work, and helping others improve their workflows.
  • Ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to people without a technical background.
  • Preference for a team where everyone builds, owns, and co-creates rather than a management role.
Responsibilities
  • Build features end to end, from database to user interface, and review pull requests.
  • Design and evolve core data models, and review migrations before release.
  • Own third-party integrations and make build-versus-buy decisions.
  • Run continuous integration and continuous delivery using GitHub Actions and CircleCI; monitoring using New Relic and Sentry; and infrastructure on Render, PostgreSQL, and Redis.
  • Lead during outages and escalations, especially infrastructure-related incidents.
  • Keep dependencies up to date and simplify the technology stack where possible.
  • Work with the data team to improve privacy and security practices.
  • Help build AI coding tools and workflows across the team to increase speed and efficacy.
  • Lead backend architecture and own backend and platform decisions.
  • Partner with product, design, marketing, and data teammates to make decisions and coordinate new features and capabilities.

Commons and InPlanet team up to expand access to high-integrity ERW credits.

Commons and InPlanet team up to expand access to high-integrity ERW credits. August 28, 2026 Climate platform Commons has entered into a partnership with InPlanet that expands the access to high-integrity carbon removal credits from enhanced rock weathering (ERW). With this move, Commons is adding InPlanet's ERW projects in Brazil to its carbon removal portfolio. Specialized in sustainable spending, Commons is a finance app that serves individuals and organizations with significant capital, helping them direct those means into a curated set of exceptional climate solutions. The app comes with a design that enables users to see the full impact of their everyday financial choices transparently, and it offers a toolset to change them. Commons made the decision to enter this partnership with InPlanet following a rigorous evaluation process. "Partnering with InPlanet is an exciting step toward scaling durable carbon removal while creating meaningful benefits for farmers and local communities," said Sanchali Pal, Founder and CEO at Commons. InPlanet stands out with its approach to ERW. When assessing options for its carbon removal portfolio, Commons recognized InPlanet's work not only because of the tonnes of CO2 removed, but also due to the scientific rigor, transparency, and long-term credibility of its operations. "InPlanet stood out for our rigorous measurement approach, extensive field research, and commitment to reducing uncertainty in enhanced rock weathering," the ERW company commented. Besides developing its own carbon dioxide removal (CDR) projects, InPlanet also actively contributes data to academic and nonprofit research, with the goal of advancing the scientific knowledge, standards, and policies that would enable ERW to scale as a trusted carbon removal solution. This collaboration, according to the ERW company, represents a shared commitment to scaling a high-integrity CDR pathway while creating lasting climate impact, as enhanced rock weathering is known to improve soil health, supporting more resilient agriculture in the tropics. "With long-term commitments and upfront financing, we're scaling Enhanced Rock Weathering and delivering trusted climate impact, together with Commons," InPlanet added.
