Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent education, a General Educational Development credential, or post-secondary education is required.
  • Clinical training in an approved phlebotomy training program is required, unless an accepted alternative qualification is met.
  • Alternatively, a two-year degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or a health-related specialty is required.
  • Alternatively, two years of experience in specimen collection, specimen processing, and specimen requisitioning for a clinical laboratory or healthcare delivery system is required.
  • Alternatively, clinical training in a Northside Hospital laboratory as part of education-related clinical rotations is required.
  • Alternatively, a valid, verifiable phlebotomy certification is required.
  • All applicants must submit to and pass a color-acuity screening test.
Responsibilities
  • Handle laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure laboratory test requests are properly ordered, cancelled, and charged for inpatients, outpatients, and institutional accounts.
  • Perform specimen collection procedures for inpatients and outpatients.
  • Perform non-technical specimen processing, preparation, and distribution for patient specimens.

  • Ability to use and understand medical laboratory terminology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer systems and design.
  • Demonstrated public relations skills and service delivery training.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to understand and apply accurate procedures in specimen handling and clerical processing.
  • Sufficient finger sensation and visual ability to locate patients' blood vessels.
  • Effective communication skills and good written and oral communication skills.
