About the job

Requirements
  • Eight or more years in field service, deployment operations, or technical customer operations for complex hardware.
  • Experience with power electronics, energy storage, industrial automation, robotics, or similarly technical systems.
  • Demonstrated success building a partner-led service model across distributors, integrators, or third-party field providers.
  • Direct experience managing critical incidents, commissioning failures, warranty decisions, and return merchandise authorizations (RMAs).
  • Technical fluency sufficient to work from diagnostic logs, electrical and system documentation, firmware information, and failure evidence without substituting for Engineering.
  • Ability to establish service-level agreements (SLAs), escalation paths, service records, and operating metrics from scratch, with clear recommendations and decisive follow-through.
Responsibilities
  • Own deployment readiness, commissioning, acceptance, customer handoff, and the site and support-system readiness checklist, including reviewing every partner commissioning and completion report. Keep each Sales account owner current on installation status for their sites.
  • Act as the company’s contract manager for its nationwide service partner: write and co-sign each Scope of Work, set response times, staffing, and warranty pre-approval rules, run the monthly scorecard, approve invoices and change orders, and recover costs when the partner causes damage.
  • Design the service network, including geographic coverage, spare-parts placement, a qualified second partner, distributor installation and service responsibilities, and defined work customer facility teams may perform after certification.
  • Build and run the training and certification program. Certify the partner’s lead technicians and trainers, ensure they deliver the program to field teams, audit the program, and certify distributor installation teams and customer facility crews for first-line response.
  • Own field triage, severity classification, escalation, containment, remote or on-site resolution, and customer communication during incidents, including deciding which monitoring alarms receive a remote fix and which require an on-site visit.
  • Own warranty operations and authorization, RMA, failure disposition, replacement, rework, and return-to-customer coordination within approved warranty policy and technical criteria, with backup coverage for approvals.
  • Author field-facing standards, including installation and commissioning acceptance criteria, troubleshooting guides, training and certification content, and warranty and RMA procedures. Approve site procedures drafted by the service partner and ensure the company owns the procedures.
  • Own warranty costs with Finance, including claim-rate assumptions, cost per claim, recovery from partners at fault, the reserve, and inputs for pricing extended-warranty and maintenance plans.
  • Define customer-facing service commitments, including response time, containment, restoration, uptime, repeat failures, partner performance, and RMA cycle time, and incorporate each into the service partner’s Scope of Work.
  • Own the service workflow and serial-level record requirements, including deciding where records are stored; ensure partner service reports are recorded in the company’s system.
  • Serve as the first call, with a backup, for major customer incidents, including incidents outside business hours.
  • Build the field-to-engineering evidence loop; Engineering owns technical diagnosis, root cause, and corrective-action approval, while service documentation remains the role’s responsibility.
  • Keep the internal team small; internal hires support training, certification, and large projects rather than installations. Build the operating budget, tooling, and hiring sequence as deployments scale, and justify each internal hire against partner capabilities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with UPS systems, battery energy storage, data-center infrastructure, batteries, or critical-power products.
  • Working knowledge of DC electrical safety practices, including NFPA 70E and lockout/tagout, and on-site commissioning experience with electrical systems.
  • Experience building technician training, certification, and train-the-trainer programs.
  • Experience defining service workflows for customer portals, remote monitoring, customer relationship management (CRM), or field-service platforms.
  • Background in a high-growth hardware company approaching its first scaled deployments.

Echion and Proper Voltage partner to develop 1.6MW UPS platform for AI data centers.

Echion and Proper Voltage partner to develop 1.6MW UPS platform for AI data centers. 13 Oct 2026 By: IDCNOVA Region: North America Battery materials developer Echion Technologies has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with battery storage firm Proper Voltage to co-develop an integrated Uninterruptible Power Supply platform tailored for AI data centers, the two companies announced. The collaboration will see Echion's XNO battery technology integrated into Proper Voltage's existing 480V and 800V Vault UPS system, creating a unified product dubbed VaultX. According to the companies, the system will deliver 1.6MW of power and 84kWh of capacity in 480V or 800V rack configurations, with the aim of significantly shortening deployment timelines while mitigating the impact of power swings that are increasingly common in high-density AI compute environments. The partnership underscores a growing push across the data center industry to rethink power infrastructure as AI workloads place unprecedented demands on uptime, power quality, and operational resilience. Conventional UPS architectures, built around legacy battery chemistries, have struggled to keep pace with the rapid charge and discharge cycles required by modern AI facilities, where even brief power disturbances can disrupt training runs and inference services worth millions of dollars. Echion's XNO technology is an anode chemistry that the Cambridge, UK-based company says enables lithium-ion batteries to safely charge or discharge in three to six minutes across more than 50,000 cycles. That capability is central to the VaultX value proposition, according to Echion CEO Jean de La Verpilliere. "AI data centers need exactly what XNO was built for, which is extremely high charge and discharge rates sustained across tens of thousands of cycles," he said. "Our materials and cells are built for duty cycles that aren't survivable for conventional chemistries, and collaborating with Proper Voltage enables us to implement these capabilities in a market-leading UPS platform and ensure that operators can benefit from VaultX in the shortest possible amount of time." Proper Voltage, headquartered in Carlsbad, California, develops control and integration technology designed to help advanced batteries operate reliably in power systems without requiring complete redesigns. CEO Charlier Welch noted that the company's architecture was intentionally built for technology transitions. "Our architecture was purposely designed so that operators can adopt new and emerging battery technology without redesigning their power systems, which is why integrating XNO into our Vault architecture is straightforward," he said. "What this system changes for an operator is the business case." For data center operators, the implications extend beyond incremental hardware improvement. As AI clusters grow denser and more power-hungry, UPS systems are evolving from passive backup assets into active components of power management strategy. A platform capable of handling rapid, repeated charge-discharge cycles could reduce reliance on oversized battery banks, lower total cost of ownership, and improve grid-interactive capabilities. The MoU between Echion and Proper Voltage signals that battery innovation is becoming a competitive differentiator in the race to build AI-ready data center infrastructure.
