  • A diploma in Biotechnology, Chemistry, Chemical Technology, or a related scientific field is required.
  • One to three years of experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment is required.
  • A strong understanding of basic laboratory techniques and chemical handling procedures is required.
  • Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation and analytical methods is required.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and work under minimal supervision is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods is required.
  • The role requires work in laboratory and production settings and may involve exposure to chemicals, fumes, and occasional high temperatures or pressure systems.
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare samples for extraction by labelling glassware, preparing solutions according to test methods and applicable standard operating procedures, ensuring impingers are filled or solutions are ready before sample generation, verifying solvents and volumes against test methods and protocols, and calibrating simple systems such as pH, Karl Fischer, and UV spectrophotometers.
  • Perform extraction procedures by transferring samples, pads, or products into the correct extraction vessel; dispensing solutions with pipettors, gastight syringes, or bottle-top dispensers; evaporating, digesting, shaking or vortexing, and centrifuging samples; performing sample cleanup using solid-phase extraction and liquid-phase extraction; and following extraction procedures in standard operating procedures.
  • Verify laboratory equipment, including dispensers, balances, and pipettors, before use.
  • Document and record weights, volumes, reagents, dates, and other results to ensure compliance with good laboratory practice and ISO 17025 guidelines.
  • Confirm that the correct internal standards and spike solutions are used.
  • Complete worksheets and runsheets accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Review quality-control results and identify results that are out of specification.
  • Prevent contamination during sample extraction by working in a clean area, maintaining general housekeeping, ensuring glassware is free from contaminants, and following cleaning procedures in test methods and standard operating procedures.
  • Implement the Laboratory Quality Policy and perform duties according to project-specific requirements, current test methods, study plans, and standard operating procedures.
  • Comply with health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and laboratory information management systems is a plus.
