Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Administer and continuously improve the accommodations program and process for the Cummings School.
  • Lead the periodic review and revision of technical standards for DVM candidates.
  • Collaborate with faculty in developing return-to-duty policies.
  • Receive accommodation requests from students and work with the student to determine, with appropriate academic input, whether accommodations are required and reasonable.
  • Identify and develop relevant and reasonable accommodations that comply with accreditation standards, particularly for students in clinical environments.
  • Communicate accommodation decisions to students and those who need the information to implement them while supporting student privacy.
  • Perform intake interviews to understand individual needs and evaluate information from medical and psychological professionals to determine eligibility for accommodations.
  • Manage the interactive process by consulting confidentially with students, school personnel, health care professionals, faculty, and relevant staff to develop and communicate reasonable accommodations.
  • Receive and resolve concerns about the disability accommodation process or approved accommodations, referring matters to the Office of Equal Opportunity as appropriate.
  • Create and manage a HIPAA-protected environment for confidential student medical, religious, and health-related documentation in accordance with applicable laws and university policies.
  • Develop and provide programs, resources, and services to ensure accessibility of the academic environment for students.
  • Educate the campus community about support for individuals with disabilities and facilitate compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act, related regulations, and university accommodation policies.
  • Periodically review technical standards and collaborate with faculty on return-to-duty policies for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program, keeping them current and compliant with accreditation standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree; other clinical training such as Physician Assistant, Certified Veterinary Technician, Optometrist, or Registered Nurse will be considered.
  • Previous experience implementing accommodations.
  • Previous experience in an academic or similar group environment.
  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and experience in veterinary, clinical, and/or laboratory environments.
  • Appreciation of animals, veterinary medicine, animal and human health, and research.
  • Strong understanding of accommodations.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
