  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Applicants must be able to speak, read, and write English and follow oral and written instructions thoroughly.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform bending, forward reaching, lifting, and pushing or pulling carts throughout the department and hospital.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain a friendly disposition with patients.
  • Neat appearance, good attendance, and a good work record are essential.
  • Ability to work in very cold, cold, and warm environments.
  • Must wear safety shoes.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver and serve meals to patients, set up dining areas, and prepare, heat, and serve meals to patients.
  • Work on a belt line.
  • Maintain work areas and equipment and follow procedures to meet sanitation and safety standards.
  • Follow Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points principles of food handling.
  • Prepare patient meals and meal trays with dietary restrictions.
  • Operate microwave and convection ovens.
  • Operate and maintain dish-cleaning machines.
  • Assist with inventory as required.
  • Prepare, decant, and assemble food and special dietetic items.
  • Deliver and retrieve meal carts and supplies.
  • Temper and distribute food items.
  • Push food supply carts between the dock and department.
  • Handle garbage bags.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in institutional food-service operations.
  • Food Handler Certificate.
