Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Hold a current license in the state of Illinois.
  • Maintain current CPR registration.
  • Have knowledge of the geriatric population in life community settings.
  • Have working knowledge of the policy and procedure book.
  • Have recent clinical experience.
  • Have experience with an electronic health record or the willingness and ability to learn it.
  • Have the physical ability to perform normal licensed practical nurse duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, kneeling, sitting, reaching, grabbing, pushing, pulling, standing, and walking for an entire shift.
  • Have the ability to read labels, regulations, technical procedures, professional journals, nursing orders, and care plans.
  • Have computer knowledge necessary to perform work duties.
  • Have the ability to supervise with energy, courtesy, authority, respect, and fairness.
  • Be able to communicate in a friendly manner with residents and coworkers in English.
  • Be able to perform varied activities and adapt to a quickly changing environment as it relates to resident care and the facility.
  • Be comfortable working in a Christian retirement center environment.
  • Adhere to attendance policies and understand residents’ need for 24/7 care.
  • Be able to use tactful and appropriate communication in sensitive and emotional situations.
  • Adhere to regulations specified in the employee handbook, procedures, and policy documents.
  • Wear an approved uniform.
  • Work primarily inside the facility’s main building in health care areas and accept typical health care facility exposure, including potential injury or infection.
Responsibilities
  • Provide complete and comprehensive resident nursing care by following each care plan and recognized nursing techniques, procedures, and standards within the practical nursing scope.
  • Implement basic preventative, therapeutic, and rehabilitative nursing care for assigned residents safely.
  • Perform delegated independent nursing functions under registered nurse observation, including data collection, care-plan development, carrying out physician orders, evaluating nursing-care effectiveness, documenting observations and interventions, and performing selected patient-care and environmental tasks.
  • Dispense and oversee treatments, medications, and diets as ordered.
  • Maintain comprehensive resident records, including resident condition, medications, treatments, and resident responses.
  • Assign duties to nursing assistants in a timely manner and communicate their performance regularly to the charge nurse.
  • Provide the charge nurse or care-planning staff with information and observations about residents’ needs and preferences.
  • Provide individualized attention that supports each resident’s highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
  • Immediately report significant events involving residents’ medical condition or behavior to nursing administration on duty.
  • Perform responsibilities according to safety and infection-control procedures, including hand washing, use of disposable gloves and gel products as indicated, CDC recommendations, and proper disposal of soiled materials.
  • Follow up with supervisors, coworkers, or residents regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns.
  • Help create an atmosphere supporting residents’ privacy, dignity, cleanliness, safety, and well-being.
  • Safeguard resident health-care privacy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Act as a customer service representative and public-relations ambassador for the facility with residents, families, vendors, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Interact positively with residents to promote a homelike environment.
  • Immediately report abuse, neglect, or violations of residents’ rights.
  • Protect residents’ personal belongings, report missing items, and assist in locating them.
  • Maintain, care for, and safely use supplies and equipment according to facility policies and procedures.
  • Complete all required in-service training and assigned duties and tasks.
  • Provide feedback and assist health-care team members with timely problem solving.
  • Identify process improvements and recommend changes to management.
  • Identify safety hazards and emergency situations and initiate corrective action or report them.
  • Assist the immediate supervisor with administrative tasks supporting department operations.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
