Requirements
  • Current appropriate state licensure is required.
  • Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification is required.
  • The candidate must meet practice requirements in all states employed.
  • The role requires a minimum of 2 years of nephrology nursing experience in the last 2 years as a registered nurse.
  • The candidate must complete all FKC education and modality-specific training requirements before serving as Nurse in Charge.
  • The candidate must have 6 months of acute dialysis experience before serving as Nurse in Charge.
  • The position requires the ability to perform heavy lifting, move patients, assist with ambulation, bend over, stand for prolonged periods, and occasionally move machines and equipment weighing up to 200 pounds and lift chemical and water solutions weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • The employee must participate in the Ishihara Color Blindness test as a condition of employment.
  • The position requires participation in an on-call rotation, including nights, weekends, holidays, or other program-defined periods.
Responsibilities
  • Provide and coordinate clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation, for an assigned group of patients.
  • Delegate appropriate tasks to registered nurses, licensed vocational or practical nurses, and patient care technicians when appropriate.
  • Participate in decision-making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality improvement activities that enhance patient care outcomes and program operations.
  • Perform ongoing systematic collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after treatment; document findings in the medical record; modify treatment plans as indicated; and notify appropriate clinical personnel.
  • Assess and document patients' and families' basic learning needs and provide initial and ongoing education.
  • Recognize abnormal aspects and implications of patient status and report or collaborate with appropriate healthcare team members.
  • Direct and provide safe, effective patient care for assigned patients according to prescribed modality-specific treatment procedures.
  • Assess daily patient-care needs and collaborate with direct and ancillary patient-care staff.
  • Initiate and coordinate communication with FKC and non-FKC dialysis providers and contracted facility personnel to ensure continuity of patient care.
  • Implement, administer, monitor, and document patients' responses to prescribed intradialytic transfusions, including notification of physicians and blood suppliers about adverse reactions.
  • Administer prescribed medications and document their medical justification and effectiveness.
  • Initiate and assist with emergency response measures.
  • Serve as a resource, leader, coach, mentor, and role model for new and incumbent employees by modeling appropriate behavior, work habits, and attitudes.
  • Provide specialized nursing-care instructions to hospital or facility staff when contractually required.
  • Assist in an outpatient facility as needed.
  • Serve as a preceptor to new employees.
  • Complete CAP requirements to maintain or advance within the Clinical Advancement Program.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Provide direct patient care involving lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation.
  • Travel between assigned facilities and to training or meeting sites.
