Requirements
  • High School Diploma.
  • Life and Health Insurance License in the home state, obtained and maintained within 90 days.
  • At least two years of relevant work experience in a life insurance or medical setting.
  • Proven personal computer skills and the ability to perform repetitive wrist, hand, and finger motions.
  • Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Working knowledge of an email system.
  • Ability to remain stationary in an office setting for long periods while working at a desk, on a computer, with standard office equipment, or in meetings.
  • Ability to verbally communicate and exchange accurate information with customers and associates regularly.
  • Visual acuity to read and interpret correspondence, procedures, reports, and forms in paper and electronic formats, inspect small defects or parts, operate machinery including inspection equipment, use measurement devices continuously, and determine work accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Ability to prepare written correspondence, reports, and forms using prescribed formats and conforming to punctuation, grammar, diction, and style rules.
  • Ability to apply logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to perform substantial continuous wrist, hand, and finger movement for computer work.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
Responsibilities
  • Process contract and application changes and requests, and approve and issue life and health insurance policies in a timely manner while complying with state and federal guidelines.
  • Provide internal and external customers with accurate, professional verbal direction on the information and forms needed to complete the application process.
  • Conduct client interviews to obtain accurate medical, social, avocation, and other required information for underwriting.
  • Analyze and prepare cases for New Business Specialists, Underwriting Assistants, Underwriters, or Senior Underwriters to review.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, including medical information, and comply with federal and state rules and regulations such as MIB, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and replacement requirements.
  • Use document management systems to organize, manage, and transmit documents.
  • Verify and process outstanding case requirements and requests for additional information.
  • Analyze and review cases for completeness and accuracy, code the appropriate system, and issue and approve cases within established service-time and quality guidelines.
  • Investigate and gather information about additional medical conditions based on client responses.
  • Back up the Senior Case Specialist by overseeing day-to-day case management and reporting.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in a medical field.
  • Proficient attention to detail and organizational skills, including demonstrated organization and time-management methods for managing or prioritizing workload demands.
  • Ability to make sound decisions during client interviews about medical conditions or medications requiring further details, amendments, or documentation not originally disclosed.
  • Experience working independently under little direction from management, applying knowledge to future decisions through progressive decision-making.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate business needs clearly, concisely, and effectively to internal and external customers.
  • Examples demonstrating a high degree of accuracy while handling high work volumes or multiple duties.
  • Experience effectively collaborating with customers.
  • Flexibility to meet department and customer needs.
  • Experience identifying and resolving problems through independent decision-making and self-initiative.
