Thermo Fisher Scientific

View

Thermo Fisher Scientific makes and sells the instruments, chemicals, consumables and lab services that drug companies, hospitals, universities and industrial labs use for research, testing and production. Its products cover work from gene sequencing and protein analysis to diagnostic tests and lab freezers, and its distribution arm ships supplies to labs worldwide. Drug developers also hire it to run clinical trials and to manufacture medicines under contract. It earns money from consumables that labs buy again and again, along with instrument sales, service contracts and outsourcing fees. The company traces its roots to Thermo Electron, founded in 1956, which merged with Fisher Scientific in 2006, and it is based in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Teen wins $25K for low-cost airborne bacteria sampler at Thermo Fisher Junior Innovators Challenge

Bailey Quinn Frank, 15, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, won the $25,000 Thermo Fisher Scientific ASCEND Award, the top prize at the 2026 Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge. Thermo Fisher Scientific and Society for Science announced the winners in Washington, D.C. Frank built a low-cost environmental DNA sampler that uses a small fan and filter paper to collect airborne bacteria. She says it could help rural communities monitor health threats where resources for disease surveillance are limited. The 30 finalists, chosen from nearly 2,000 applicants, shared more than $100,000 in awards. Four other top winners each received $10,000, including twin brothers Henry and Jack Grover, 14, who developed a hydrogel sprayer to stop wildfires reigniting.

Thermo Fisher raises 2026 organic growth outlook to 4% on strong biopharma demand

Thermo Fisher Scientific raised its full-year organic revenue growth outlook to 4% on its third-quarter earnings call on October 21, 2026. The company said it beat its third-quarter revenue expectations and kept its fourth-quarter guidance at 4%. Chief executive officer Marc Casper said demand in pharma and biotech markets stayed strong, building on the improvement seen in the second quarter. Artificial intelligence built into its lab hardware cuts manual setup time by about 90%, Casper said. He added that the integration of Clario, a recent acquisition, is going smoothly, with revenue synergies expected as its clinical development tools join Thermo Fisher's wider offering.
