Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a specialized diploma.
  • Knowledge of patient- and family-centered practice, cultural awareness, effective communication, patient assessment and care, patient and designated care-partner education, medication administration and prescription, discharge planning, assessment and diagnosis, and health-information documentation.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • An active registered nurse license in Pennsylvania is required.
Responsibilities
  • Use the nursing process to address patients' physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs.
  • Develop individualized nursing plans of care with patients and designated care partners, consistent with their cultural beliefs and values.
  • Integrate evidence-based practice, clinical expertise, patient and family preferences, and cultural beliefs and values to deliver optimal healthcare.
  • Identify patient and family learning needs and provide understandable, affirming education while following nursing practices and protocols to minimize risk of harm.
  • Use information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support ethical decision-making.
  • Use care-process data and improvement methods to design and test changes that improve patient-care quality and safety.
  • Function within nursing and inter-professional teams to achieve quality patient care through communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making.
  • Create an inclusive care environment and use problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Serve as a primary preceptor for appropriate staff members.
  • Participate in hospital- and practice-setting committees, including safety and quality-improvement committees.
  • Give and receive feedback and integrate appropriate changes into practice.
  • Lift and carry 40–50 pounds, including pushing or pulling patients and performing lateral transfers.
  • Stand and walk frequently to continuously, with patient transport potentially requiring 8–10 miles of walking per shift; perform role-specific activities such as kneeling, bending, squatting, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing, completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, or an appropriate advanced degree within three years of hire is strongly preferred.
  • One year of previous registered nurse experience in an acute-care setting is strongly preferred.
