About the job
- A high school diploma or GED, or 10 years of work experience, is required.
- For Wisconsin, a high school diploma or GED or 10 years of work experience is required, along with graduation from a medical assistant school or training program or an education equivalency for certification.
- No prior experience is required.
- Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
- One of the following medical assistant credentials is required: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant from the National Healthcareer Association; Certified Medical Assistant from the American Association of Medical Assistants; Clinical Medical Assistant Certification from the American Medical Certification Association; Medical Assistant certification from the American Allied Health Association; Medical Assistant Certification from the American Medical Certification Association; National Certified Medical Assistant from the National Center for Competency Testing; Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant from the National Association for Health Professionals; Registered Medical Assistant from the American Association of Medical Personnel, American Medical Technologists, American Registry of Medical Assistants, or American Association of Medical Personnel.
- EMTs must hold a Wisconsin license.
- Paramedics must hold a Wisconsin license.
- LPNs must hold a Wisconsin license.
- The role requires frequent standing, walking, oral communication, hearing, lifting or carrying objects weighing 0–25 pounds, pushing or pulling, reaching, gripping, and keyboard use or data entry.
- The role requires occasional patient lifting or moving and lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing 25–50 pounds.
- Assist with provider-ordered treatments under the supervision of a provider or registered nurse and perform select clinical duties.
- Interview patients, measure vital signs, record patient information in charts, and prepare treatment rooms for examinations.
- Perform basic clerical duties, including answering phones, maintaining records, scheduling patients, and filing.
- Order and stock supplies and help maintain a clean and orderly environment.
- Document provider encounters with patients, list diagnoses and symptoms, record follow-up instructions and prescriptions as directed, and transcribe orders for laboratory tests, radiology tests, and medications.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience and expertise are preferred.
