The only hospital in town: Ardent Health (ARDT) QAV America #69. This week QAV America dig into Ardent Health (ARDT), a regional hospital operator running about 30 facilities across six US states, currently cheap enough to earn a solid QAV score despite a messy couple of years that included a 34% single-day share price collapse, a CEO being shown the door, and a class action lawsuit. Tony and Cameron also wade into rising US bond yields, the headwinds facing the Mag Seven as their businesses go from capital-light to capital-heavy, and the genuinely alarming Hugging Face AI incident that has even Sam Altman talking about slowing down. Ardent Health has expanded specialty care services into the new UT Tyler School of Medicine Building in Tyler, Texas, marking the first time patient services and physician training share a single facility in the region. The building houses women's health, pulmonary, orthopaedic, imaging and surgical care alongside the medical school. The expansion builds on Ardent's 2018 joint venture with The University of Texas System. Since then, Ardent has invested over $315 million in capital and grown the provider network to roughly 640 providers, a 116% increase. Graduate medical education has expanded from about 39 residents in 2018 to more than 270 today. UT Tyler's School of Medicine, which opened in 2023, has attracted students with strong local ties, with 90% of the current class connected to the region.
Ardent Health reported second-quarter 2026 results with total revenue of $1.62 billion and net income of $17 million. The healthcare provider posted adjusted EBITDA of $115 million, whilst admissions decreased 1.0% year-over-year, though adjusted admissions grew 2.5%. Operating cash flow reached $197 million, up 67% from the prior year. The company reaffirmed its full-year 2026 guidance, projecting total revenue between $6.4 billion and $6.7 billion and adjusted EBITDA of $485 million to $535 million. CEO Dave Caspers said second-quarter performance was impacted by lower surgeries and admissions but noted volumes improved following early June. The company expects its IMPACT programme to generate at least $70 million in savings for 2026, up from a previous estimate of $55 million.
