Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Five or more years of experience in construction estimating.
  • Proficiency with computers, including computer skills, knowledge, and efficiency.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications to evaluate and understand the total scope of work required.
  • Broad understanding of the petroleum industry.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must pass the company's employment requirements, including a drug screen, criminal background check, and motor vehicle record check if driving for the company.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements, including occasional lifting or carrying of 10 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment; and sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform essential functions.
Responsibilities
  • Support all departments by deriving project estimates.
  • Review blueprints, specifications, and related documents; gather subcontractor proposals; calculate project costs; and build project estimates.
  • Participate in preconstruction activities, including project prospecting, attending pre-bid meetings, and selecting vendors and subcontractors.
  • Work with project managers to ensure awarded project costs are managed against estimated values.
  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs from plans and specifications.
  • Obtain quotes and define scopes of work for subcontractors and vendors.
  • Communicate with subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
  • Review project documentation to understand project requirements.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with key customers.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with key subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Visit sites and attend onsite pre-bid meetings as necessary to prepare bids.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Construction on scheduling and capacity constraints.
  • Compute cost factors and prepare estimates by planning and producing work schedules.
  • Negotiate and complete buyouts with subcontractors.
  • Prioritize and plan work activities, plan for additional resources, and develop realistic action plans.
  • Complete additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.
  • Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Understand cost trends and price volatility for parts, materials, and resources.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering is preferred.
