GSK shares up 20.4% despite 5.2% net margin as $10.6B Nuvalent deal lifts pipeline hopes

GSK shares have risen 20.4% over the past year, including dividends, even as the company's profitability weakened. The stock now trades at £19.14, up from £16.52 at the start of the period. Revenue reached £8,409m, but net income slipped to £435m and net margin fell to 5.2%. GSK agreed to buy Nuvalent for $10.6 billion to deepen its lung cancer pipeline. It also won approvals for Jideytro, Hibsago, and the new antibiotic Utebzi. The bullish case puts fair value at £23.63, assuming 8.5% annual revenue growth and margins rising to 19.8% by 2028. The bearish case puts it at £11.2, citing cost pressure, HIV patent expiries, and pricing and legal risks. GSK plans to fund growth through a £1.9 billion cost-saving programme and site closures.

FDA approves GSK's Hibsago, offering 19% functional cure rate for chronic hepatitis B

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved GSK's Hibsago (bepirovirsen) for chronic hepatitis B in adults without cirrhosis. It is used alongside nucleos(t)ide analogue therapy in patients with suppressed viral DNA and surface antigen levels of 3,000 IU/ml or below. GSK says it is the first treatment of its kind to offer a potential functional cure after six months. Patients can self-administer after the first dose. In B-Well phase III trials, 19% of patients reached functional cure (233 of 1,220), against none of 614 on placebo. Standard care typically achieves less than 1% after a year. The most common adverse events were injection site redness, local pain, and a temporary rise in a liver enzyme. The label carries a boxed warning for liver flares and low platelet counts. GSK licensed the drug from Ionis. It is also approved in Japan.

FDA approves Jemperli as first immunotherapy for MSI-H/dMMR rectal cancer, with 68% response

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved GSK's Jemperli (dostarlimab) as the first immunotherapy for adults with stage II and III locally advanced rectal cancer that is microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) or mismatch repair deficient (dMMR). AnaptysBio, which manages the financial collaboration for the drug, announced the approval on October 19, 2026. The decision rests on the AZUR-1 trial. Among evaluable patients, 68% (98 of 144) had a sustained clinical complete response at 12 months, according to investigator assessment. No recurrences have been reported among responders after a median follow-up of more than two years. Jemperli alone could help eligible patients avoid chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Serious adverse reactions occurred in 20% of patients. GSK will present full interim data at the ESMO Congress in Madrid on October 25, 2026.

GSK's Ris-Rez shows 61pc response rate in early lung cancer study.

GSK's Ris-Rez shows 61pc response rate in early lung cancer study. 1,856.00p. 13:24 19/10/26. Drugmaker GSK reported new early-stage global data for risvutatug rezetecan (Ris-Rez), an experimental cancer treatment being tested in patients with relapsed small-cell lung cancer. 10,747.73. 5,853.07. 5,792.15. 24,009.43. 13:23 19/10/26. In a phase Ib study, GSK said the drug produced a 61% response rate at the higher 8mg/kg dose, compared with 32% at 6mg/kg. GSK said the results, which will be presented at the ESMO 2026 congress in Madrid, support using the 8mg/kg dose in its ongoing global phase III trial. The FTSE 100-listed company said the treatment's side-effect profile was manageable, with most issues linked to blood-related conditions. More serious side effects occurred in 42% of patients at the higher dose and 15% at the lower dose. One case of interstitial lung disease was reported across 50 patients. GSK's Hesham Abdullah said: "Today's first global data for Ris-Rez build on the statistically significant overall survival benefit recently reported in Hansoh's pivotal Chinese trial. As the data for Ris-Rez continues to grow, we remain focused on accelerating development in extensive-stage small cell lung cancer, where patients often relapse quickly and urgently need more treatment options." As of 0905 BST, GSK shares were up 0.16% at 1,865.50p. Reporting by Iain Gilbert at Sharecast.com

GSK beats Pfizer as dividend stock: 39% payout vs 89% of free cash flow

GSK looks the better dividend stock than Pfizer, according to a comparison of the two drugmakers, which both face major patent losses before 2030. Pfizer yields 6.3% and GSK 4.1%. Over the twelve months to June 2026, Pfizer paid out 89% of its free cash flow in dividends ($9.79 billion of $10.98 billion), against 39% at GSK (£2.67 billion of £6.90 billion). Pfizer's chief executive officer, Albert Bourla, said the dividend will be maintained even in "the most stretched scenarios." Pfizer raised its 2026 revenue guidance to $60.5 billion to $62.5 billion. GSK raised its dividend 17.6% in fiscal 2025 after an earlier cut, and Q2 2026 sales rose 5%. Its main risk is debt: net debt rose to £22 billion after the Nuvalent acquisition.
