Requirements
- An associate degree and at least two years of related experience, or a high school diploma/GED and at least four years of related experience.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Knowledge of work-package review, walkdowns, observations, hazard identification, Occupational Safety and Health Administration compliance, personal protective equipment, incident investigation, records, and corrective actions.
- Ability in hazard recognition, field presence, stop-work judgment, regulatory discipline, investigation, and coaching.
Responsibilities
- Accept delegated technical responsibility of limited scope within the Safety and Health Program.
- Evaluate proposals under close supervision and make recommendations based on proposed projects and tasks.
- Educate and observe personnel, and ensure they perform work in compliance with company safety and health policies and procedures.
- Assist with job-scope reviews, walkdowns, and general observations to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control occupational hazards in the workplace.
- Assist with investigations of accidents, injuries, and hazard complaints in the assigned area.
- Assist with assessments and support emergency response drills as assigned by management.
- Attend Local Safety Improvement Team meetings.
- Apply basic knowledge and understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements to assist with safe work activities in the assigned area.
- Become familiar with company safety and health programs, systems, and procedures.
- Monitor, analyze, and investigate workplace activities and potential hazards through work-package reviews, assessments, walkdowns, and observations.
- Identify hazardous workplace conditions and remove hazards or protect employees by guarding, revising work procedures, and training or requiring the use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment.
- Identify and mitigate hazardous conditions affecting workers, property, the environment, and the general public.
- Ensure workplace conditions comply with applicable federal, state, local, and organizational occupational safety and health standards, and prepare and maintain required records.
- Participate in Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspections and any procedures that follow a citation.
- Investigate, prepare, and forward reports on injuries and fatalities as required.
- Take necessary steps to stop work when continuing an activity is unsafe or would create an unsafe condition.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited university and prior internships in Safety and Health.
- A bachelor's degree in safety, health, industrial hygiene, or a related science.
