Requirements
  • Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering with an emphasis in structures from an ABET-accredited university or college.
  • Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in Massachusetts.
  • 10+ years of experience in bridge design and construction services.
  • Experience in new bridge design, including design-build, bridge rehabilitation, construction services administration, load ratings, and/or bridge inspection.
  • Experience with structural design software such as AASHTOWare BrR, Midas 3D Civil, STAAD Pro, MDX, CSiBridge, LUSAS, MathCAD, or other structural analysis software.
  • Strong knowledge of reading plans and shop drawings and evaluating contractor compliance with construction plans and specifications.
  • Ability to work concurrently across multiple projects while managing changing priorities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and/or MicroStation.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Local candidates are preferred because relocation assistance is not provided.
Responsibilities
  • Design and analyze structural components of bridges and related structures.
  • Review project designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, client contract requirements, and specifications.
  • Develop details of bridge components for contract drawings.
  • Calculate quantities and develop construction cost estimates.
  • Provide construction-services support, review shop drawings, organize submittals, and address contractor questions during construction.
  • Perform load-rating analyses and prepare load-rating reports.
  • Perform bridge and tunnel inspections and prepare inspection reports.
  • Maintain accuracy and quality in engineering designs, reports, load ratings, and plans while conforming to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
  • Inform Project Managers of workload changes and changes in project schedule, scope, or additional services.
  • Provide technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval of proposed project plans.
  • Develop project scopes of work, estimate manpower needs, prepare critical path method schedules, and track project progress.
  • Assist with or participate in the preparation of business proposals.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through educational workshops, professional publications, personal networks, and professional societies.
