Requirements
  • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent degree by the start date.
  • A PhD by the start date.
  • A license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Wisconsin by the start date.
  • American College of Veterinary Surgeons board certification or board eligibility by the start date resulting from advanced training in large animal surgery, or European College of Veterinary Surgeons board certification.
  • The ability to lift up to 40 pounds, stand or walk for prolonged periods, reach or climb a ladder, kneel or sit on the floor, and perform bending, squatting, and twisting.
Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical service within the Section of Large Animal Surgery at UW Veterinary Care, including daytime and emergency duty.
  • Provide backup on-call support to large animal surgery residents, interns, and technicians.
  • Participate in clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students, interns, and residents in large animal surgery.
  • Complete up to 20 weeks of clinical duty per year.
  • Share an equitable portion of lecture and laboratory teaching with the section, most recently averaging 10–15 lectures and 10–15 laboratories per year.
  • Conduct research and service activities consistent with the expected distribution of approximately 35–45% clinical practice, 5–10% teaching, 40–50% research, and 5–15% service.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in surgery involving large ruminants, camelids, or other large-animal species.
