Requirements
  • At least 5 years of embedded systems design and development experience in production environments.
  • Experience designing, debugging, maintaining, and shipping kernel-level device drivers for actuators, motor controllers, or comparable real-time peripherals.
  • Ability to reason about latency budgets, scheduling and priorities, bounded queues, and deadline-miss behavior in real-time systems.
  • Depth in CAN, UART, SPI/I²C, Ethernet, and USB bus and driver development or substantial debugging.
  • Experience configuring, patching, and building Linux kernels for embedded targets, including reasoning about interrupt-to-userspace behavior.
  • Experience building board support packages for shipped boards, including device trees, bootloaders, and Yocto or Buildroot pipelines.
  • Experience integrating and debugging sensor vendor firmware, including protocol debugging, firmware updates, and vendor escalation.
  • Instrument-level debugging experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD, and kernel logs.
  • Strong written English and comfort with fully asynchronous, distributed collaboration.
Responsibilities
  • Design, write, and maintain kernel-level drivers for actuators, motor controllers, and sensors across robot platforms.
  • Build and own board support packages for the compute platforms used by the company, including device trees, bootloaders, kernel configurations, and power.
  • Integrate sensor vendor firmware, work around firmware bugs, negotiate fixes with vendors, and wrap firmware in trusted interfaces for DimOS.
  • Own bus-level communication across CAN/CAN-FD, EtherCAT, UART/RS-485, SPI, I²C, Ethernet, and USB, including timing, synchronization, and failure behavior under load.
  • Maintain custom Linux kernel builds by patching, configuring, and upgrading kernels with real-time requirements.
  • Make firmware testable in continuous integration through hardware-in-the-loop rigs, replayed bus captures, and mocks.
  • Write production pull requests for the open-source DimOS repository under the team’s review standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Production Rust experience or embedded Rust interest backed by systems C/C++ depth.
  • NVIDIA Jetson experience, including JetPack/L4T, kernel customization, power modes, and thermal tuning.
  • PTP and time synchronization across multiple compute units, including timestamping across clock domains.
  • OTA/fleet update systems such as Mender, RAUC, or SWUpdate, plus secure boot and provisioning.
  • Experience with middleware internals such as DDS, Zenoh, LCM, or shared-memory transports.
  • Board-level literacy, including reading schematics, communicating with electrical engineers, and specifying connectors.
  • Open-source contributions to kernel, U-Boot, Zephyr, Yocto layers, or similar projects.
