Requirements
  • At least 7 years of experience as a Technical Program Manager running programs involving application engineering, modernization, migration, or retirement, ideally leading multiple products or a portfolio in large organizations.
  • A software engineering background or sufficient technical depth to scope and sequence work directly with engineering teams.
  • Exposure to product management and understanding of how technical roadmaps connect to product priorities.
  • Experience in banking, payments, credit, debit, settlements, or another regulated financial services environment.
  • Familiarity with cloud migration concepts and target infrastructure such as Amazon Web Services.
  • Working knowledge of Agile delivery practices and tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
  • Experience managing risk, dependencies, and stakeholder communication across multiple workstreams.
  • A Bachelor's Degree, or, in lieu of a degree, three years of specialized training and/or progressively responsible technology work experience for each missing year of college in addition to the minimum required experience.
Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of legacy application retirement and migration projects across a payments platform program.
  • Partner with engineering and architecture teams to define disposition paths for legacy systems: retire, remediate, or migrate to new infrastructure.
  • Bring a software engineering lens to technical scoping, sequencing, and tradeoff discussions with engineering leads.
  • Build and maintain project plans, timelines, and dependency maps across multiple concurrent workstreams and products.
  • Identify risks and blockers early, and drive them to resolution with the appropriate technical and business stakeholders.
  • Track progress against milestones and report status clearly to program leadership and client stakeholders.
  • Coordinate across engineering, infrastructure, security, and compliance teams to keep migrations on track.
  • Facilitate program-level planning, status review, and retrospective ceremonies to keep teams aligned.
  • Maintain clear documentation of application disposition decisions and migration progress.
  • Flag scope or timeline changes early and help the team adjust plans accordingly.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience leading multiple products or a portfolio in large organizations.

Kunai is a software development partner that helps established companies and fast-growing startups turn ideas into scalable, shipped digital products. It combines engineers, designers, and product managers to take concepts from napkin sketches to live products used by millions, offering end-to-end execution and long-term partnerships. Unlike some vendors that work in silos, Kunai emphasizes enduring collaboration—evidenced by a long-term relationship with Capital One that led to a partial acquisition and a portfolio spanning four major payment networks, four top-ten US banks, seven Fortune 500 technology companies, and ten unicorn startups. The company’s goal is to turn ideas into reliable, scalable products and maintain lasting relationships that help clients grow."
