Requirements
  • Registered nurses working in specialty areas must meet the requirements determined by that specialty.
  • A current New Hampshire registered nurse license is required.
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience is required.
  • An Associate of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is strongly preferred.
  • A Master of Science in Nursing degree is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute de-escalation training is required or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support is preferred and required within 60 days of hire, except for Inpatient Rehabilitation and Senior Behavioral Health units.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification is preferred and required within 60 days of hire for Maternal Child Health and the Emergency Department.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is preferred and required within 60 days of hire for the Emergency Department.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course certification is preferred and required within one year of hire for the Emergency Department.
  • Trauma Care After Resuscitation certification is preferred and required within one year of hire for the Intensive Care Unit, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, and Operating Room.
  • A specialty or nursing leadership certification is preferred.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute training is preferred or must be obtained before completion of orientation.
  • Membership in a professional organization is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Support and promote the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
  • Design patient care using established nursing standards and policies, New Hampshire Board of Nursing requirements, state and local requirements, and American Nurses Association guidelines.
  • Establish and measure general and unit-specific competencies with clinical education, and provide staff with opportunities to achieve required competencies.
  • Ensure staff complete all onboarding requirements.
  • Chair nursing-related committees and councils.
  • Mentor staff enrolled in clinical advancement.
  • Use an electronic medical record.
  • Promote clinical research, inquiry, and expansion of nursing knowledge, and use evidence to support best practices.
  • Participate in recruitment activities, interviews, and candidate selection, involving staff in the interview process.
  • Promote continuous improvement through department audits and Process Improvement Plan requirements, and report results to committees focused on quality outcomes.
  • Identify personnel issues, consult with Human Resources or the appropriate manager or director, resolve issues, and complete required documentation.
  • Communicate information in a timely manner and encourage early, direct input from stakeholders in decision-making.
  • Facilitate Unit Advisory Committee activities to address staff issues and promote shared governance.
  • Supervise and evaluate the Clinical Resource Nurse's work performance in patient care and staff development, and ensure timely and effective evaluations of all unit personnel.
  • Ensure employee career interviews are completed on time.
  • Participate in routine leadership rounds with patients and staff.
  • Participate in Environment of Care rounds and report issues for correction.
  • Provide nursing care area support when patient acuity and census exceed available resources.
  • Monitor and ensure staff compliance with required certifications and education.
  • Identify and implement unit goals.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss and recommend strategies for improving the patient care environment.
  • Disseminate outcomes of nurse-led process improvement initiatives and report them to the quality council.
  • Promote a just culture environment.
  • Respond promptly to safety and risk events.
  • Meet requirements of external regulatory agencies, including DNV and CMS, as applicable to the clinical area.
  • Monitor and share patient and staff satisfaction scores with the unit, with a focus on achieving a 75th-percentile ranking.
  • Facilitate staff education on regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure staff are competent in providing culturally diverse care.
  • Attend leadership training sessions offered by the Employee Experience Department.
  • Monitor daily unit productivity and adjust staffing to achieve 98% or better.
  • Evaluate staffing patterns annually to meet patient care needs and prepare accurate operating and capital budgets.
  • Operate within budgeted full-time equivalents and maintain position control.
  • Identify reasons for budget variances and develop action plans.
  • Ensure the unit schedule is posted on time and staffing is adequate to support department needs.
  • Promote certification and membership in professional organizations.
  • Maintain active nursing licensure and certifications required for the department.
  • Review assigned policies, provide edits when due, and follow the approval process.
  • Review assigned contracts annually, including required assessments.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the role.
