PNC Financial Services

View

PNC Financial Services runs one of the largest banks in America, serving households and businesses of every size through branches, apps, and corporate bankers. Acquisitions turned it from a regional lender into a coast-to-coast bank, notably its purchases of National City during the 2008 financial crisis and BBVA USA in 2021. Consumers keep checking and savings accounts, such as Virtual Wallet with its built-in budgeting tools, and take out mortgages and credit cards, while companies borrow and manage cash through PNC. It earns most of its money on the gap between loan interest and deposit costs, and the rest from fees. PNC traces its roots to a savings bank founded in 1845 and is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

What believers are saying

  • Lending income hit a record: interest earned minus deposit costs rose 16% to $4.1 billion in the June 2026 quarter.
  • Expansion creates jobs: in November 2025, PNC set a goal of 300-plus new branches and 2,000-plus hires by 2030.
  • Owning PNC stock has paid: shares rose 19% in the year to October 2026, nearly double JPMorgan's 10%.

What critics are saying

  • Mergers bring cuts: PNC set 777 layoffs, mostly back-office jobs at acquired FirstBank in Colorado, starting June 2026.
  • Expect five office days a week: PNC ended hybrid work in May 2026, calling itself an in-office company.
  • Chase is outbuilding PNC: in February 2026 it planned 160 new branches that year, nearly triple PNC's 55.

What makes PNC Financial Services unique

  • Businesses are its main borrowers: commercial loans made up 72% of PNC's $368 billion loan book in June 2026.
  • It owns a merger adviser: Harris Williams, bought in 2005, helped lift deal fees 80% to $577 million in mid-2026.
  • A Pittsburgh bank leads Denver: buying FirstBank in January 2026 gave PNC 20% of the city's retail deposits, the most.

Watsco signs $750M five-year unsecured credit facility, extending existing revolver

Watsco, the largest distributor in the North American HVAC market, has signed a $750 million unsecured senior revolving credit facility. Bank of America led the deal, joined by JPMorgan Chase, PNC Bank, Wells Fargo, U.S. Bank and five other banks. The five-year facility amends and extends Watsco's existing credit line. An initial draw repaid $69.7 million owed under the prior facility. Further borrowings will fund working capital, acquisitions, dividends and other general purposes. The terms include more borrowing capacity, covenant flexibility and better fit with the seasonal nature of Watsco's working capital needs. "A committed source of low-cost debt is an important building block of our growth strategy," said Barry S. Logan, executive vice president.

Enerpac secures $850M credit facility with $300M term loan maturing in 2031

Enerpac Tool Group Corp. has signed a new credit agreement worth $850 million, replacing its 2022 facility. The deal, finalised on October 16, 2026, combines a $550 million revolving credit line and a $300 million term loan, both maturing on October 16, 2031. The Milwaukee-based industrial tools maker will use initial borrowings to repay debt under the old facility and cover fees. The previous deal included a $625 million revolver and a $200 million term loan due September 9, 2027. PNC Bank, National Association is administrative agent. Borrowings start at term SOFR plus 1.125%, with spreads of up to 1.875% depending on Enerpac's net leverage. The company may seek up to $425 million in additional loans. The term loan requires quarterly repayments from March 1, 2028, starting at $0.9375 million.

Net interest income rose to $4.21 billion from $3.65 billion a year earlier, helped by loan growth and better funding conditions. The bank pays an annual dividend of $8 per share, a 3.68% yield, with a payout ratio of 37.44%. Its forward price-to-earnings ratio is 10.68x, below JPMorgan Chase's 13.50x. PNC third-quarter revenue of $6.56B misses estimates, but costs beat at $3.75B

PNC Financial Services Group reported third-quarter revenue of $6.56 billion, just short of the $6.58 billion analysts expected. Costs came in lower than forecast, with non-interest expenses of $3.75 billion against an estimate of $3.77 billion. Net interest income rose 2.4% from the second quarter to $4.21 billion, below the $4.23 billion consensus. Commercial loans grew at the Pittsburgh-based bank, helped by its January acquisition of FirstBank Holding Co. Higher yields on assets were partly offset by higher funding costs. Larger rivals have been more upbeat. JPMorgan Chase expects net interest income to rise 10% next year, and Bank of America forecasts an 8% gain. PNC took a one-time $139 million charge in the second quarter to sell some securities at a loss. Its average investment securities rose 3% to $151.4 billion in the third quarter.

Average loans rose 2% to $372.2 billion, driven by commercial lending. Average deposits grew 1% to $461.2 billion.
