VREY is a Berlin PropTech company that helps landlords enable solar power for multi-family buildings. It handles planning, installing photovoltaic systems, and the operational setup, including a digital platform that automates legally compliant billing to tenants. As a metering point operator (wMSB), it also manages contracts with other energy providers, removing the supplier obligation from landlords and allowing tenants to buy solar energy directly (potentially lowering bills by up to 20%). Its goal is to scale communal solar use, support building decarbonization, and increase property value through tenant-accessible clean energy.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • VREY raised €3.3 million on 2026-04-23 from Rubio, HTGF, and Kopa.
  • It claims more than 200 buildings across all 16 German states, proving early demand.
  • Germany's 2024 Solarpaket 1 and 2025-2026 tax changes expand tenant-electricity economics.

What critics are saying

  • VREY is one of many German tenant-electricity vendors; Solarize and EinhundertEnergie already serve hundreds.
  • Seed funding on 2026-04-23 bought only near-term runway for a 20-person team.
  • If §42b EnWG adoption stalls, the business becomes a niche billing tool, not infrastructure.

What makes VREY unique

  • VREY combines smart metering, billing, and installation for §42b EnWG communal supply.
  • It targets multi-family buildings, where Solarize and EinhundertEnergie still dominate tenant-electricity software.
  • Its certified metering-point operator role removes landlord utility headaches and speeds deployment.

VREY raises $3.7M to bring solar power to urban multi-family buildings

Berlin-based startup VREY has secured €3.3 million in seed financing to scale its solar power solutions for multi-family homes. The company specialises in bringing photovoltaic systems directly to urban residential buildings. VREY is already active in over 200 buildings, demonstrating early traction in the multi-family housing sector. The funding will support the company's expansion efforts as it works to increase solar power adoption in urban residential properties. The investment highlights growing interest in decentralised renewable energy solutions for apartment buildings, where traditional solar installations have historically been more challenging to implement compared to single-family homes.
