Requirements
  • Experience as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse, with current or eligible registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta.
  • A minimum of four years of crisis assessment and stabilization experience within an addiction and mental health community setting is required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a nursing leadership role, with comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices and techniques related to mental health long-term care.
  • Training in Psychological First Aid is required.
  • Knowledge of current nursing and medical practices and procedures, laws, standards, regulations, and guidelines relating to the continuing care sector.
  • Knowledge of current and applicable Alberta health legislation and standards.
  • Understanding of and adherence to applicable regulated practice and ethical standards, privacy of information policies, workplace safety and health requirements, and MDS/Care Management systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary community health team and to accept and request direction as required.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure resident satisfaction and promote continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist nursing staff by ensuring that initial and ongoing assessments and care plans are developed, implemented, and reviewed.
  • Assign and supervise nursing staff.
  • Manage mental health issues related to residents, families, and advocates.
  • Promote and ensure an interdisciplinary approach to resident care.
  • Act as a role model for nursing staff by demonstrating clinical expertise in mental health and comprehensive knowledge of mental health practices.
  • Provide ongoing staff development and education to improve the mental health program.
  • Provide overall supervision of the entire building in the absence of senior management.
  • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults.
  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy, particularly regarding ethics, morality, and integrity, as set out in the Code of Conduct.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Awareness of community agencies and resources for addiction and mental health clients, both inside and outside of Alberta Health Services, is an asset.
  • Training in critical incident stress management is preferred.
