Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field and four years of post-licensure experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist; or a master's degree in a related field and two years of post-licensure experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist; or a PhD in a related field and one year of post-licensure experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A New York State Medical Technologist license upon hire, or a New York State Histotechnologist license restricted to the Histology Laboratory upon hire.
  • Proficiency in all aspects of laboratory test principles and methodologies, with the ability to judge applications for specific cases and interpret complex results.
  • Ability to work independently and perform testing without supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain standard operating procedures and policies.
  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot instrument performance.
Responsibilities
  • Provide higher-level support for the laboratory section, including specialized testing, quality assurance development, and development and implementation of new procedures.
  • Perform all duties of a Medical Technologist II.
  • Assist with and lead the development of new methods and procedures as needed.
  • Train technologists on new laboratory methods and instruments and ensure compliance with accepted practices.
  • Maintain area-specific technical, information technology, quality, educational, and safety documentation, including policies, procedures, performance trends, and compliance logs.
  • Provide input into performance evaluations and competency checks of technologists, technicians, other personnel, students, and residents.
  • Keep meticulous notes regarding experimental methods, data, and conclusions, as applicable.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external clients.
  • Report to work at the assigned University of Rochester laboratory location or site.
  • Adhere to all hospital and laboratory policies.
