Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree, an associate's degree in veterinary technology, certification as a veterinary technician or equivalent, or three years of experience in a working environment with similar duties.
  • Experience in customer service roles.
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds and perform standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, crawling, twisting, pushing and pulling, climbing, and squatting.
  • Ability to work in a safety- and security-sensitive position subject to drug screening.
  • Ability to handle cash and pass the required financial history or credit check.
  • Valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and throughout employment.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain clear and concise communication with clinicians, house officers, staff, and students to facilitate efficient workflow.
  • Serve as a liaison between clients and the LSU Small Animal emergency team.
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients and referring veterinarians.
  • Provide customer service through proper phone etiquette and answer calls promptly and accurately.
  • Enter client information promptly and accurately into medical records software.
  • Explain hospital policy documents and gather appropriate signatures.
  • Gather information about the patient's presenting complaint and relay it to emergency staff.
  • Retrieve and organize medical records from client service and referral email.
  • Assist technicians with upkeep and input of patient charges within the hospital.
  • Post, collect, and bill charges; communicate with clients; review receivables; and ensure late balances are collected before service.
  • Verify that appropriate documents are signed and deposits are collected when the patient is admitted, and ensure bills are paid before discharge.
  • Check out clients at discharge and collect deposits on inpatient cases.
  • Maintain the appearance of the lobby by cleaning chairs, organizing magazines, and cleaning and sanitizing workstations and counters.
  • Organize paperwork at the end of each shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of customer service experience and a bachelor's degree in Animal Science or certification as a veterinary technician.
  • Two years of administrative experience related to the duties of the job with a bachelor's degree, an associate's degree in veterinary technology, or veterinary technician certification or equivalent.
