What Baxter International (BAX) said on its Q3 earnings call.

What Baxter International (BAX) said on its Q3 earnings call. Baxter International (NYSE:BAX) raised its full-year 2026 outlook after reporting third-quarter sales and adjusted earnings that exceeded its expectations, citing broad-based growth across its portfolio, improving execution and strong free cash flow generation. Third-quarter global sales totaled about $3 billion, up 5% on both a reported and organic basis. Adjusted earnings were $0.58 per diluted share, down 16% from the prior-year period because the prior year included discrete tax benefits. President and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Hider said every division contributed to growth, with Advanced Surgery, drug compounding and infusion systems serving as the largest contributors. "Our third quarter performance provides further evidence that our turnaround is gaining traction," Hider said. "We continue to advance our strategic priorities and delivered results ahead of our expectations." Updated 2026 outlook. Baxter increased its forecast for full-year organic sales growth to 3% to 4%, from a previous range of 2% to 3%. The company also raised the low end of its adjusted earnings outlook, now expecting $2.05 to $2.15 per diluted share, compared with prior guidance of $1.95 to $2.15. Chief Financial Officer John Rogers, who joined Baxter on Oct. 1, said the company now expects reported sales growth of 4% to 5% in 2026. Foreign exchange is expected to add roughly 100 basis points to reported growth, while master services agreement revenue from Vantive is expected to create a roughly $25 million, or 30-basis-point, headwind to reported growth. Baxter maintained its forecast for full-year adjusted operating margin of 13% to 14% and expects its tax rate to be between 18.5% and 19.5%. The company reduced its projected range for non-operating expenses to $245 million to $255 million, reflecting lower interest expense after debt reduction. Management said its updated outlook implies fourth-quarter organic growth at a level similar to the approximately 5% growth delivered in the third quarter. Kevin Moran, Baxter's vice president of investor relations, said the fourth quarter is expected to benefit from continued growth in infusion therapies and platforms, Advanced Surgery, drug compounding and Healthcare Systems & Technologies. Segment performance. Medical Products & Therapies sales rose 6% organically to $2.1 billion. Infusion Therapies & Platforms sales increased 4% to $1.8 billion, supported by infusion systems, drug compounding and IV solutions. Drug compounding grew 9%, while injectables sales declined 3%, primarily because of price deflation and manufacturing challenges at Baxter's Round Lake, Illinois, facility. Advanced Surgery sales grew 12% to $342 million, reflecting demand and higher volumes for hemostats and sealants, commercial execution across regions and steady procedure volumes. During the question-and-answer session, Hider said the business also benefited from a competitor's supply challenge, which could make future comparisons more difficult. Healthcare Systems & Technologies sales increased 4% to $806 million. Care & Connectivity Solutions grew 5% to $498 million, led by Global Surgical Solutions, Patient Support Systems, execution against the U.S. backlog and international demand. Front Line Care sales rose 3% to $308 million, supported by connected monitoring demand, including for Connex 360, partly offset by planned product exits. The Medical Products & Therapies adjusted operating margin rose 10 basis points to 20.9%, while Healthcare Systems & Technologies margin increased 140 basis points to 17.2%. At the company level, adjusted operating margin declined 40 basis points to 14.5%, reflecting sales mix, lower pricing contribution and lower injectables sales, partly offset by higher volumes. Round Lake actions and supply reliability. Baxter said it will discontinue production of cephalosporin products at its Round Lake specialty injectable facility at the end of October. The company will continue supporting contracted customers into 2027. The products are expected to contribute approximately $50 million in sales and $30 million in operating income in 2026. Management said the move will reposition the plant for non-cephalosporin production, reduce complexity and support supply resilience. Hider said the decision also helps address complexities cited in an FDA warning letter related to an earlier inspection of the facility. Baxter recorded $39 million in restructuring costs tied to the action during the third quarter, which were excluded from non-GAAP earnings. The company said it has implemented corrective and preventive actions, as well as broader quality and operational enhancements at Round Lake and across its manufacturing network. It also reported improvement in supply challenges involving a contract manufacturer in the injectables business and expects the impact to be more limited going forward. Cash flow, deleveraging and capital allocation. Third-quarter free cash flow was $448 million, bringing year-to-date free cash flow to $705 million. The quarterly result benefited from improved operations, working-capital discipline, timing of certain cash receipts, an IEEPA tariff refund recognized in the prior quarter and legal settlement proceeds. During the quarter, Baxter completed a $600 million cash tender offer and retired $854 million of debt. The company recognized a pretax gain of approximately $253 million from the early extinguishment of debt, which was excluded from non-GAAP earnings. Management reiterated its goal of reaching net leverage of about three times by year-end. Hider said reducing leverage remains the company's near-term capital-allocation priority, though a stronger balance sheet could eventually provide greater flexibility for internal investment, tuck-in acquisitions and share repurchases. He said potential acquisitions would be evaluated based on strategic fit, market opportunity, Baxter's ability to integrate and operate an asset, and expected financial returns. Looking toward 2027, Rogers said Baxter faces several moving parts, including inflation, tariffs, the end of Vantive transition services by January 2027, planned product exits and the cephalosporin discontinuation. He said the company also sees opportunities to offset pressures through operational efficiencies and cost savings, but said detailed 2027 guidance will be provided with fourth-quarter results in February. Baxter's shares fall as Q3 probability dips despite revenue growth.

Baxter's shares fall as Q3 probability dips despite revenue growth. Baxter's shares fell by over 4% on 29 October after adjusted earnings per share (EPS) dipped 16% year-over-year, despite positive revenue results. Baxter has reported Q3 revenues of almost $3bn, but as it raises its 2026 outlook for the second consecutive quarter amid the positive financial performance, the company's stock price also took a hit. On an adjusted basis, net income in Q3 was $0.58 per diluted share, decreasing 16% compared to the same period last year. This was partly because of a higher effective tax rate. Still, revenue of almost $3bn was indicative of a 5% year-over-year (YoY) rise. As a result, Baxter now expects its 2026 earnings to land in the $2.05 to $2.15 per diluted share range, up from $1.95 to $2.15 previously. Baxter's shifting fortunes in recent quarters follow a series of setbacks it experienced throughout Q2 and Q3 2025, leading it to take actions including the establishment of its growth and performance system (GPS) in October 2025, to tighten up its internal protocols and address recent issues with products including its Novum infusion pump. Throughout its recent more positive quarters, Baxter has made much ado about turning its operations, having been hamstrung by a slew of infusion pump recalls throughout recent years that caused its Q2 2025 revenues to come in below analysts' estimates at $2.81bn. However, it appears that quality control issues continue to blight Baxter and may have influenced market sentiment despite its positive Q3 performance. Baxter received a warning letter from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on 29 September that struck a familiar tone, again citing that multiple current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) violations had been uncovered at one of the company's US drug manufacturing sites. These issues and the adjusted EPS dip struck a cautious note with investors. Releasing its Q3 financials ahead of market open on 29 October, Baxter's shares, listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), saw a slight uptick to $26 at market open, before declining by over 4% to a $24.61 close. Baxter has a market cap of $12.15bn. Meanwhile, a Jefferies research note agreed with Baxter's assessment that execution was improving. It noted, however, that it foresees a "challenging '27 ahead", due to factors including ongoing inflationary pressures and Baxter's plans to fully exit its transition services agreements (TSA) in relation to the $3.5bn sale of its kidney care unit to investment firm Carlyle in August 2024. Once Baxter exits the TSA in January 2027, it will no longer receive fees from Carlyle. This is customary under a typical TSA through which the buyer gradually assumes responsibility for the business and no longer relies on seller support. More than two-thirds of Baxter's Q3 revenues stemmed from its medical products & therapies segment, which totalled around $2.1bn, reflecting a 6% YoY uptick. According to the Illinois-based company, the segment's performance was primarily driven by its infusion therapies and platforms division, chiefly due to sales in relation to infusion systems and drug compounding and IV solutions, with advanced surgery products also contributing to the segment's overall performance. Baxter's healthcare systems and technologies segment, meanwhile, drew in revenues of around $806m, indicative of a 4% uptick YoY. Performance in the quarter reflected strong demand for care and connectivity solutions products, driven by growth in global surgical solutions and patient support systems, with the results also reflecting growth in front line care, Baxter stated. Andrew Hider, Baxter's president and CEO, commented: "We delivered a strong third quarter, with growth across all segments and divisions globally." "We continue to make steady progress stabilising the business, strengthening the balance sheet and driving continuous improvement. Our results reinforce our confidence in this direction as we build a stronger foundation for sustainable growth and long-term value creation." Qatar among the first to adopt baxter's secure, connected vital signs monitoring technology.

Qatar among the first to adopt baxter's secure, connected vital signs monitoring technology. New patient monitoring solution automates vital signs documentation and protects patient data, supporting Qatar's National Vision 2030 ambitions for an integrated health system Published on October 25, 2026 | 11:57 AM Baxter International Inc. (NYSE:BAX), a leader in patient monitoring, physical assessment and vision screening products, announced the launch of the Welch Allyn Connex 360 Vital Signs Monitor in Qatar, among the first markets to introduce the technology. The launch event in Doha, brought together healthcare leaders, clinicians, and IT specialists from the Ministry of Interior, Hamad Medical Corporation, The View Hospital, Military Medical City Hospital, and Sidra Medicine, who experienced live demonstrations of Connex 360's automated documentation and Early Warning Score capabilities. The launch comes as Qatar continues to advance its healthcare transformation agenda under Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Health Strategy 2024-2030 "Health for All," which aims to build a health-focused society supported by an integrated health system centered on clinical excellence, sustainability and innovation. Continued investment in digital health infrastructure and interoperable systems has created an environment where connected care technologies can be adopted and scaled effectively. Vital signs are among the most frequently recorded measurements in healthcare settings, yet in many environments they continue to be documented manually. This process can take valuable time away from patient care and may introduce transcription errors where accuracy is critical. As the latest innovation, Connex 360 captures a complete set of vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, and blood oxygen levels, in less than a minute. Configurable Early Warning Score protocols help care teams identify patients whose condition may be deteriorating, supporting earlier clinical intervention. The monitor automatically records patients' vital signs and transfers them securely to hospital information systems, reducing the need for manual documentation. "Healthcare systems across Qatar continue to embrace innovation that improves the quality and efficiency of care," said Beata Karasinska, general manager, Central Eastern Europe, Middle East, Türkiye and Africa (CEEMEA) at Baxter. "We are proud to introduce Connex 360 in Qatar and to support healthcare providers with a connected monitoring solution that helps clinicians access timely patient information, streamline workflows and spend more time with their patients, with the confidence that patient data is protected. This launch reflects our long-term commitment to the country and to our mission to Save and Sustain Lives." As healthcare systems become increasingly connected, protecting patient information remains a priority. Connex 360 uses end-to-end encryption and certificate-based authentication to help safeguard data as it moves between the bedside and hospital systems. Building on a long history of innovation in patient monitoring through the Welch Allyn portfolio, Baxter continues to invest in connected care technologies that help healthcare providers improve efficiency, enhance patient safety and support better clinical outcomes.
